Technical Product Owner
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Join an international software engineering company with Portuguese roots (Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra) and hubs across the UK, US, India, Romania, Morocco and Brazil. This is a genuinely human, low-bureaucracy engineering culture — the opposite of a traditional consultancy. You will own the product lifecycle end to end for a distributed engineering team, acting as the first point of contact for clients and business stakeholders. Full remote from anywhere in Portugal.
PROJECT & CONTEXT
Our client acts as a long-term technology partner for major international brands across retail, sports betting, fintech and entertainment. Rather than delivering software and walking away, teams embed directly with the client to build and maintain scalable products. You will lead a development team across multiple time zones and locations, translating product vision into incremental, well-defined deliverables. Expected travel (UK and USA): 0%–15%, depending on the project.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Required)
- 8+ years of enterprise experience supporting Agile development teams (Scrum/Kanban)
- Software engineering background — comfortable speaking technical jargon and holding your own in architecture, development, testing and deployment discussions
- Proven ability to analyse product use cases and requirements across all SDLC phases (you won't be asked to design architecture or write code, but you must influence those conversations from a business and client standpoint)
- Proven experience leading engineering teams
- Demonstrated management skills: conflict resolution, multi-reporting, roadmap planning and backlog management
- Hands-on ownership of product backlog, story writing, epics, user stories and acceptance criteria
- Experience with international projects and remote teams across multiple locations
- Excellent communication skills — able to produce clear reports tailored to different audiences
- Languages: English B2 (Upper Intermediate) minimum, spoken and written. Portuguese is not required.
- Based in Portugal
NICE TO HAVE (Preferred)
- Prior hands-on coding or QA experience used to triage development tickets by business and customer priority
- Experience working with software architects to set and communicate release schedules, dates and scope
- Track record identifying market opportunities and shaping product vision
- Experience mentoring teams as an Agile advocate and driving continuous improvement
- Familiarity with enterprise backlog tooling (Jira, Confluence or equivalent)
- Exposure to retail, sports betting, fintech or entertainment domains
Compensation: €2,500 – €3,250/month net, depending on experience and seniority level.
