POSITION: Development Director FSLA Status: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
Starting Hourly Range: $45,000.00 to $55,000.00 ($22.00/hour to $26.44/hour)
I. JOB SUMMARY
The Development Director is responsible for leading, planning, organizing, and directing The Frontera Land Alliance's (Frontera) fundraising department aligned with the organization's strategic plan goals and objectives. Main focuses include membership and major gifts program, planned giving, sponsorships, grants, and special fundraising campaigns. The Development Director will build strong relationships with community leaders, individuals, and businesses to strengthen and fulfill Frontera’s mission and meet its fundraising objectives. This individual will nurture and sustain effective communications and relationships with Frontera team members, donors, members, partners, and patrons to effectively execute successful fundraising and/or cultivation events. The value of this position is to advance Frontera’s mission, core values and strategic initiatives with the effective and substantive development of relationships, funding, resources, and partnerships.
II. KEY POSITIONAL COMPETENCIES
A. Membership and Major Donor Program
- Nurture relationships with current donors at all giving levels through the management of membership programs
- Create, monitor and manage retention of members and cultivate new members through actions such as phone calls, thank-you letters and in-person meetings
- Grow and manage monthly giving programs
- Plan and manage 6 monthly events for members and sponsors
- Write, manage, and oversee all member appeals and implement recommendations for enhancing results
- Network and spread the mission of Frontera by engaging in meetings, presentations, and other community programing, as well as weekly social media posts, and monthly articles in the Frontera newsletter.
- Lead, manage, and grow the El Paso Giving Day initiative
- Lead and manage on-line giving
- Maintain data accuracy and database management of all supporters and grantors
- Identify potential new donors
B. Sponsorship Program
- Cultivate and engage current sponsors
- Build a relationship with new sponsors to form partnerships engaging with Frontera through efforts such as volunteer work or support of programing
- Identify and cultivate new sponsors to build new support and new funding sources.
C. Grant Manager
- Manage all existing grant programming from grant application to compliance.
- Research, write and seek grant funding through all viable grant options available.

III. POSITION SUCCESS FACTORS / PERFORMANCE MEASURES
- Applied experience in fundraising, donor development, financial management, membership, non-profit work, public relations, and working with diverse communities
- Demonstrated team player, collaborator and communicator
- Development of significant fundraising contributions impacting Frontera’s capacity to fulfill its strategic plan direction, metrics and intent
- Growth in the development of new partners, sponsorships, members, and relationships contributing to the Frontera funding, advocacy, resources and talent
- Evidence of applying excellent communication skills – both verbal and written – being respectful and understanding that content shared by Frontera and donors is confidential
- Demonstrated excellent and consistent organizational skills, reliability, meeting deadlines, and evidence of an ability to manage projects to successful completion
IV. QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Ability to see the big picture of the organization with the direction of strategic plan and align with its objectives and strategic intent
- Experience with developing and managing a program budget
- Experience with MS Excel, MS Word, MS Publisher, Donor Perfect, ZOOM, FB/IG
- Experience in being organized, filling out reports, and reporting on them both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to manage communications using media and through effective writing.
V. OTHER POSITION-RELATED OR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Office work 95%, need to be able to work at a desk, attend meetings, build relationships, make presentations, and represent Frontera at meetings
- Field work 5%, need to be able to hike up to 3 miles in all weather conditions
- Need reliable transportation
- Other duties as assigned
- A plus if bilingual, fluent in Spanish and English
