The ideal candidate will combine strong technical understanding of cloud platforms with financial analysis and business acumen to help engineering, finance, and leadership teams make informed decisions about cloud spending.

As a Staff Cloud FinOps professional, you will own and evolve FinOps practices, establish cloud cost governance, identify optimization opportunities, and develop strategies to improve cloud cost efficiency without compromising performance, scalability, security, or reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Cloud FinOps practices across AWS, Azure, GCP, or multi-cloud environments.
  • Analyze cloud consumption, billing, utilization, and spending patterns to identify cost optimization opportunities.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive cost optimization strategies covering compute, storage, databases, networking, containers, Kubernetes, and managed cloud services.
  • Establish cloud cost governance frameworks, policies, budgets, forecasts, and spending controls.
  • Build dashboards and reporting mechanisms to provide visibility into cloud expenditure, usage trends, unit economics, and optimization performance.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, DevOps, Infrastructure, Finance, Procurement, and Product teams to embed FinOps principles into day-to-day cloud operations.
  • Drive initiatives around rightsizing, resource scheduling, reserved capacity, savings plans, commitment management, workload optimization, and resource lifecycle management.
  • Define and track key FinOps metrics, including cloud spend, forecast variance, utilization, savings, unit cost, and cost avoidance.
  • Establish tagging, allocation, chargeback, and showback models to improve accountability and ownership of cloud costs.
  • Identify anomalies and unexpected spending increases and coordinate with technical teams to investigate and resolve them.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership on cloud financial performance and long-term optimization opportunities.
  • Mentor engineers and FinOps practitioners and promote a strong culture of cloud cost awareness across the organization.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 6–12 years of experience in cloud infrastructure, cloud financial management, FinOps, DevOps, SRE, or a closely related domain.
  • Strong understanding of cloud cost structures and pricing models across major cloud platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with Cloud FinOps, FinOps, and Cost Optimization practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex cloud billing and usage data.
  • Experience with cloud cost management, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and optimization initiatives.
  • Understanding of cloud architecture, infrastructure utilization, and resource consumption patterns.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills with the ability to work across technical and business teams.

Good-to-Have Skills

  • FinOps certification or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with FinOps tools and cloud-native cost management platforms.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and container cost optimization.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, automation, and cloud governance frameworks.
  • Exposure to multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud cost management.
  • Knowledge of chargeback, showback, unit economics, and cloud cost allocation models.
  • Experience implementing automated cost controls and optimization workflows.
  • Familiarity with FinOps Framework principles and cloud financial operations best practices.

What You’ll Bring

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker who can translate cloud usage and financial data into actionable business insights. You should be comfortable working at both architectural and executive levels, influencing teams, driving measurable savings, and building scalable FinOps practices that support sustainable cloud growth.
