Short Summary:
Join Scale's Global Public Sector team to leverage AI in addressing critical challenges. As a Staff Applied AI Engineer, you will set standards for AI governance and model evaluation while being the senior technical voice for sensitive AI decisions.

Responsibilities:
- Define standards for responsible AI, model governance, and production MLOps.
- Build or validate high-risk parts of strategic AI systems.
- Architect AI systems to prevent systemic failure and lead resolution of severe incidents.
- Build reusable AI capabilities for engineers and clients.
- Advise on new AI developments and set the technical roadmap.
- Act as a senior technical partner to client leadership on AI strategy.
- Coach Senior Applied AI Engineers and build systems for safer AI.
- Contribute to recruiting and represent Scale's AI work externally.

Requirement:
- 7+ years of engineering experience with a track record in AI/ML systems.
- Experience in judging training data quality and evaluating fine-tuning results.
- Ownership of an AI-powered product end to end.
- Established standards that outlived their projects.
- Comfort with executive-level clients and leadership.
- Deep experience with regulated AI deployment, including hallucination mitigation.
