“We design the infrastructure systems of tomorrow!” – With you?

We are convinced that the transformation towards sustainable, resilient and efficient infrastructures does not have to be complicated. We provide municipalities, utilities, grid operators and other infrastructure stakeholders with the data, analyses and decision-making tools they need for integrated infrastructure and energy system planning.

To strengthen our team, we are looking for a motivated and solution-oriented Project Engineer (m/f/d) with a focus on heating grids to support the implementation of transformation plans and feasibility studies and to contribute to the development of innovative tools and solutions for future-oriented energy systems.

Tasks

  • Design and develop scalable algorithms for energy system modelling
  • Architect, extend and optimise simulation models in Python, ensuring modularity, performant data structures and reusable code
  • Conduct comprehensive and automated analyses of simulation results to extract actionable insights for energy planning
  • Translate local desktop simulations and algorithms into production-ready software architectures for integration into our SaaS platform
  • Establish and document standardised workflows for data integration, geoprocessing and quality assurance
  • Proactively align on-premise and academic tools with the requirements of production SaaS applications
  • Develop and extend greenventory's internal toolbox for energy system modelling and planning
  • Work closely with energy experts, software developers and researchers to turn complex energy system questions into robust technical solutions
  • Continuously improve the performance, maintainability and usability of our modelling and simulation tools

Requirements

  • You have a deep understanding of energy systems and/or computer science
  • You have strong skills in simulation and programming, particularly Python
  • You have experience with Django or comparable Python-based web frameworks
  • You have 2–5 years of practical experience in energy modelling, data science or engineering software development
  • You have experience with Git-based version control and GitHub, including clean commits, pull requests and branching strategies
  • You are familiar with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and linting
  • You have experience with QGIS and geospatial data analysis
  • You are familiar with geospatial Python libraries such as GeoPandas, Shapely and PyProj
  • You have experience with agentic coding and AI-supported development workflows, for example LLMs, Copilots or automated coding agents
  • You are familiar with Agile development environments and code review practices
  • You are interested in SaaS applications and enjoy turning technical concepts into production-ready software
  • You have good communication skills in English
  • You can balance the requirements and expectations of an end research institute environment with the practical needs of greenventory and a production software environment

Benefits

  • Career prospects: Work in a sustainable, socially relevant and absolutely future-proof field.
  • Team spirit: Whether in daily work, regular after-work activities or company outings - look forward to a friendly team where you will be fully integrated from the start and enjoy your work.
  • Flexible working: Whether you're an early bird or a night owl, you can arrange your working hours flexibly. In addition, thanks to hybrid working, you also have the option of working from home occasionally.
  • Fair pay: We offer an attractive and competitive salary package.
  • Personal training and development opportunities: We offer you the opportunity to quickly take on responsibility in projects within a strong team and to grow through new and exciting tasks.
  • We work in a state-of-the-art office with top-of-the-line equipment, based in Freiburg.
  • Health is a high priority for us. We therefore support our employees financially with Hansefit memberships and offer the option of leasing a company bike.
  • Work-life balance: In addition to 30 days of annual leave, we also offer the possibility of working part-time: A 4-day week is no problem for us!

"But why exactly Greenventory?"

With us, you have the opportunity to work in an ambitious team on projects that will shape the future. Through your work, you will make a significant contribution to advancing the energy transition and paving the way to climate neutrality.
