Careers | Zaigo
Zaigo builds AI software for real businesses.
Not demos. Not slide decks. Actual tools that people use to run parts of their company.
Our clients are the companies that run the real economy: manufacturers, distributors, construction and logistics firms, waste and recycling operators, healthcare and services businesses. Many are family-owned or PE-backed, with $10M to $50M in EBITDA, and most are a long way from Silicon Valley. They have messy workflows, old systems, weird data, and very little patience for theory. We build the AI roadmap with them, then we build the whole thing.
We are based in New York, with engineering teams in Eastern Europe and Latin America, and we are growing fast.
We are looking for a Director of Business Development, Mid-Market. A hunter who already spends time with the owners, CEOs and division heads of these companies, and who gets us the first meeting.
If you need inbound leads or a big marketing machine, this probably is not the job. If you like asking for the intro, getting in front of a business owner, and creating meetings from nothing, it might be.
What the work looks like
You own new business with mid-market companies. You find the companies that need us, get in the room, and set up the first call. From there one of our founders or Principals sells, scopes and builds the prototype.
A normal week might include lunch with the owner of a regional distributor, an intro from a banker or an accountant who trusts you, a visit to a plant, and a follow-up that turns into a first call with the CEO and the head of operations.
On those calls you talk plainly about what AI can do for a business like theirs: where it saves time and money, what it takes to get live, and what a sensible first project looks like. Then Pete or a Principal takes the lead on the sale. You stay close, keep the deal moving, and go find the next one.
Recent projects include:
- 01a document review tool that checks presentations against a firm's brand and compliance rules
- 02a benchmarking platform built from years of public company filings
- 03payroll and operations tools that clean messy data and produce files people can actually use
- 04internal AI agents that help teams move faster without giving the model dangerous autonomy
You do not need to build anything. You do need to understand the work well enough that an owner takes you seriously.
Who we are looking for
- 01A hunter. You have a track record of finding your own opportunities, getting the intro and building the relationship, without relying on marketing or inbound leads.
- 02You beat your number, consistently.
- 03You already work with mid-market companies outside the tech world. You might sell business software or systems to them (ERP, manufacturing or field-service software, IT services, automation), advise them (accounting, banking, exit planning), or run a group their owners belong to.
- 04Owners and CEOs take your call. You are comfortable on a shop floor and in a boardroom.
- 05Resourceful, persistent and unafraid. You ask anyone for an intro and you outwork everyone around you.
- 06Credible on AI. You use the tools yourself and can talk about AI like someone who has seen it work, without pretending to be an engineer.
- 07Bonus points if you have sold for a smaller, scrappier company where you had to hunt for every deal, or if you have started something yourself.
Who should not apply
This is not an SDR role. It is probably not right if you need inbound leads, a big marketing machine, or a sequencing tool to do the work.
It is also probably not right if you have only sold to tech companies, or only sold a product off a playbook someone else wrote.
We need someone who creates the first meeting.
Pay and location
- 01We are profitable and bootstrapped, so pay is a strong base salary plus commission and real performance bonuses.

- 03This role requires authorization to work in the US.
- 04Full-time.
