Social Media Associate, Part-time/Fixed-term (6 months)
As Yelp's Part-Time Social Media Associate, you will own the day-to-day content engine for Yelp's Instagram and TikTok presence. Operating within a newsroom model, you'll independently ideate, produce, and publish platform-native content that keeps Yelp in step with culture — not just trends. You'll make real-time judgment calls on what to post, which format fits, and how to engage our community, all with minimal oversight.
You will report to Yelp's Associate Director, Social Media. Your role is the connective tissue — the reactive, high-volume, high-quality content that keeps our channels performing at a national level. This is a part-time, fixed-term (6 months), remote role based in the United States.
What you'll do:
- Independently ideate, produce, and publish short-form video and static content across Instagram (Reels, Stories, carousels, feed) and TikTok.
- Operate at newsroom speed: identify culturally relevant moments, make format and timing decisions independently, and ship content within 24–48 hour trend windows.
- Write platform-optimized captions, hooks, and CTAs tailored to each format and audience.
- Collaborate with market-based colleagues to ensure visual and tonal consistency across all content.
- Track performance via native analytics and internal dashboards; use data to iterate on content strategy without being prompted.
- Ingest feedback quickly and apply it forward.
- Maintain and evolve Yelp's social voice to feel native, current, and consistent across platforms.
- Coordinate with cross-functional partners (brand, comms, community) as needed for moment-based content.
- Practice accessibility-first publishing (captions, contrast, alt text).
What it takes to succeed:
- 2–3 years of professional social media experience, specifically creating content for Instagram and/or TikTok at a brand, agency, or media company.
- A portfolio demonstrating platform-native short-form video and static content — not class projects, but published content with real engagement.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision: you don't wait for briefs, you bring ideas.
- Strong instinct for what "native" looks like on each platform — you can feel the difference between overproduced and underproduced, and you consistently hit the middle.
- Fluency in cultural trends, audio trends, and platform-specific features
- Proficiency with mobile-first editing tools and basic design tools (Canva).
- Excellent copywriting instincts — hooks, captions, and CTAs that are sharp, on-brand, and platform-aware.
- Clear, proactive communication with your manager and collaborators.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience at a multi-location or marketplace brand.
- Background in food, dining, nightlife, or local culture content.
- Photography skills or light motion graphics.
- Familiarity with social analytics platforms (Sprout, Later, or similar).
- Basic SEO knowledge for social discovery.
What you'll get:
Compensation range for this position is $28.00-$35.00 per hour, up to 25 hours per week.
