Senior Social Media Specialist, Culture & Insights
Yelp’s mission is to connect people with great local businesses, and our social channels are a vital part of how we inspire discovery and build love for the brand. As the Social Media Specialist on the Consumer Growth Marketing team, you’ll be the person who knows what people are saying about Yelp, local businesses, and culture, and what Yelp should do about it. You’ll run social listening and community engagement, identify the cultural moments Yelp should tap into, own static asset production in close partnership with our video lead, and lead nuanced engagement on Reddit. This role calls for a high level of independence and judgment, and reports to the Associate Director of Social Media.
We’d love to have you apply, even if you don’t feel you meet every single requirement in this posting. At Yelp, we’re looking for great people, not just those who simply check off all the boxes. This is a full-time remote role based in the United States.
What you'll do:
- Run day-to-day social listening across Yelp, competitors, the local business landscape, and wider culture in Brandwatch, including building and maintaining Boolean queries, topic tags, and alerts.
- Identify the cultural moments Yelp should tap into, from fashion weeks and award shows to viral trends and local events, and pitch the unexpected, useful angle that earns Yelp a place in the conversation.
- Move fast on those moments: shape the idea, build the asset, and get it approved and live while the moment is still happening.
- Turn signals into recommendations with a clear loop (what we’re seeing, why it matters, what we should do, who owns it); deliver recurring listening readouts and quick-turn analyses for launches and news cycles.
- Own proactive and reactive community engagement across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, Threads, X, and Facebook, writing replies that sound human, quick, and unmistakably Yelp.
- Lead nuanced engagement on Reddit: build a trusted presence in local food, city, and home services subreddits, handle critical and sensitive threads with care, and develop the playbook for when Yelp posts, replies, or stays out.
- Own static asset production from concept to publish, including reactive posts, carousels, static graphics, copy-led posts, and UGC features, using Canva and Figma.
- Partner closely with our video lead so that every insight and cultural moment lands in the right format, and plan the biggest moments together.
- Source, vet, and clear user-generated and review-based content for our channels.
- Manage the social editorial calendar in Wrike and Sprout Social, balancing planned campaigns with always-on and reactive content.
- Flag risks early and collaborate cross-functionally with Comms, PR, Support, Brand, Creative, and Product Marketing on escalations and campaigns.
- Report on content and community performance; deliver clear recommendations on what to repeat, change, scale, or stop.
What it takes to succeed:
- 4+ years in social media for a consumer audience, with hands-on experience across social listening, community management, and content production.
- A strong read on culture: you know which moments are worth joining, which aren’t, and how a brand can show up in a way that feels earned. Include 2–3 examples of reactive or culture-led work with your role and results.
- A portfolio of static and carousel work that shows a strong design eye (Canva, Figma, or Adobe). Include 2–3 examples of reactive or culture-led work with your role and results.
- Working fluency with a social listening tool (Brandwatch, Sprinklr, Talkwalker, Meltwater, or similar), including writing Boolean queries.
- Deep fluency in platform norms, especially Reddit, where tone and timing make or break a brand’s presence; experience building a brand presence on Reddit is a strong plus.
- Sharp, adaptable writing, with a feel for when to be funny, helpful, or quiet.
- Strong judgment under pressure about when to engage, when to escalate, and when to stay out.
- Ability to work independently: take a loose brief, make judgment calls, and deliver finished work without close supervision.
- Exceptional organizational skills and experience managing a content calendar across multiple channels and stakeholders.
What you'll get:
- Effective your first day: Full medical, vision, and dental
- 15 days PTO (accrual begins on date of hire and increases with 2+ years of tenure thereafter), 12 paid holidays, plus one floating holiday
- Up to 14 weeks of parental leave
- Monthly wellness subsidy
- Work from home reimbursement
- Flexible spending account
- 401(k) retirement savings plan
- Employee stock purchase plan
- Compensation range for this position is $89,000- $130,000 annually. You may also be offered a bonus and benefits.
