Machine Learning Engineer - Data, ML & Applied AI
At Viaplay Group, we entertain millions of people every day through our streaming services, radio networks, and TV channels. We believe in the power of content not just as a way of telling stories and touching lives, but also expanding worlds.
We’re looking for the best people to join us on our journey. Right now, we’re searching for a Machine Learning Engineer in our Stockholm office – are you ready to hit play on an exciting career change?
The Role
We're looking for a Machine Learning Engineer who wants to combine strong data and machine learning fundamentals with the opportunities created by modern AI.
At Viaplay, you'll help build the models and data products that shape how millions of people discover and experience entertainment. You'll work across the ML lifecycle from understanding data and selecting the right algorithms to building pipelines, deploying models, and monitoring them in production.
You'll also help us develop more effective ways of working with AI. This includes using AI-assisted, spec-driven workflows and building reusable AI skills, agents, and knowledge-based solutions. The goal is practical impact: delivering faster, reducing technical debt, improving access to knowledge, and creating reliable systems that are easier to develop and maintain.
This role is ideal for someone who understands that AI can significantly improve how we work but that great solutions still depend on high-quality data, sound ML principles, critical thinking, and thoughtful engineering.
What You’ll Do
Design, train, evaluate, and deploy ML models for recommendations, predictions, classification, and personalization
Build and maintain scalable data and ML pipelines in a modern cloud environment
Use AI-assisted, spec-driven workflows to turn clear requirements into tested, production-ready solutions
Build reusable AI skills, agents, and knowledge-based tools that support data, ML, and engineering teams
Apply AI to improve existing systems, automate repetitive work, and reduce technical debt
Collaborate with product, engineering, data science, content, commercial, and marketing teams
Monitor models and pipelines to ensure they remain reliable, understandable, and effective.
What we’re looking for
We're seeking someone who combines technical depth with strategic thinking and a curious, problem-solving mindset.
We understand you may feel confident ticking certain boxes more than others and that’s why we always keep an open mind in our recruitment process. But, in order to thrive in this role, we do believe you’ll have at least some experience in the following:
3+ years of experience applying machine learning or data science in production
A solid understanding of data, statistics, and core ML algorithms - including how to select and evaluate the right approach
Experience taking ML projects from problem definition and experimentation through deployment and monitoring
Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience using Spark or similar data-processing technologies
Experience building data pipelines and using orchestration tools such as Airflow
Practical experience with or strong curiosity about generative AI, AI agents, and AI-assisted engineering
The ability to review and validate AI-generated output rather than treating it as automatically correct
Clear communication skills and a collaborative, curious approach to problem-solving
It’s a bonus if you have:
Experience with recommender systems, search, ranking, or personalization.
Experience building AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation solutions, or internal knowledge tools
Familiarity with A/B testing, causal inference, MLOps, CI/CD, and observability
Experience in streaming, media, e-commerce, or another digital product environment
You don't need to meet every requirement to apply. We value different perspectives, a willingness to learn, and people who are excited to explore how strong ML foundations and modern AI can work together to create meaningful products.
