Job Title:
Senior Designer
Position in Organization Structure:
Reports directly to CEO
Job Brief:
Wood Concept is seeking a highly agile designer to conceptualize furniture designs and create high-fidelity 3D renders.
Responsibilities span from overseeing drafting initial technical drawings and engineering the Bill of Materials (BOM). The
ultimate mission of this position is to deliver commercially viable design packages that perfectly match the initial design
intent, culminating in a final sign-off from the CEO. Woodconcept requires a hands-on problem-solver who is comfortable
finessing a render at a desk and ensuring structural viability on paper.
Valuable Final Product:
A finalized, CEO-approved Design Package complete with accurate documentation (renders, TDs, BOM, materials),
ensuring the design is commercially viable and perfectly translated from concept to a handover-ready state for the Product
Development team.
Key Performance Metrics (KPI):
1. CEO-Approved Design Packages (Core Output): Successfully deliver 4 or more comprehensive design packages per
month that receive final, signature approval from the CEO for the sampling phase.
2. Technical Accuracy (Efficiency): Maintain highly accurate initial Technical Drawings (TDs) to ensure seamless
handoffs and minimize unnecessary structural revisions initiated by the PD team or factory engineers.
3. Concept-to-Handoff Lead Time (Velocity): Achieve an average lead time of 14 days or less from the lock of the
design concept to the presentation of the finalized documentation to the PD team.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
Responsibilities:
1. Ideation: Come up with design ideas, design goals and business targets to ensure Wood Concept stays leading Furniture
Trading company.
2. Concept Refinement & Rendering: Transform initial sketches or design directions into highly realistic 3D models and
renders. Ensure these renders accurately reflect the physical properties of solid wood, veneers, and intended finishes.
3. Material & Finish Definition: Curate and finalize physical color panels and material swatches. Ensure these selections
are commercially viable, accessible to our Vietnamese partner factories, and align with the initial design intent.
4. Overseeing of Drafting Initial Technical Drawings (TDs): Create the first iteration of 2D/3D Technical Drawings in
AutoCAD/SketchUp, detailing exact dimensions, proposed joinery, and structural proportions.
5. PD Team Collaboration: Conduct hand-off meetings with internal Product Development experts (e.g., Steven). Walk
them through the renders and initial TDs. Work dynamically to adjust detailed TDs based on the factory's specific
machine capabilities as reported by the PD team.
6. Design Integrity Evaluation: If the PD team or a factory suggests changing a hidden joint to speed up production, this
role must evaluate if that change compromises the structural integrity or aesthetic, and approve or reject it.
7. Overseeing Master BOM Creation: Compile and finalize the preliminary Bill of Materials (BOM), calculating the
exact timber yield, hardware requirements, and finishing materials needed for the sample.
8. The "Finalization Loop": Manage the feedback loop between Sasha's directives and the design output. If Sasha
demands a change to the design's curvature or finish, the Associate Designer must update the TDs and renders
accordingly.
9. Final Presentation & Sign-off: Present the ultimate, flawless documentation package (Final Renders, Final Detailed
TDs, Final BOM, and signed Color Panels) to the CEO for the official signature prior to physical sampling.
10. Handoff to PD/QC: Once signed, conduct a final handover of the approved documentation to Alex (COO), Steven (PD
Expert), and the Merchandising/QC teams so pilot runs and sampling can begin without ambiguity.
Daily Deliverables:
1. Design Execution: Complete assigned daily quotas for 3D modeling, rendering, or drafting TDs for new collections.
2. System Updates: Update daily progress on project management software (Kaiten/Miro).
Weekly Deliverables:
1. Design Production: Production of 3D designs for new collections.
2. Documentation Handoff: Finalize and submit all approved TDs, BOMs, and color/material panels for the week's
designated projects to the PD team for sampling.
3. Cross-functional Sync: Meet with the CEO to align on the technical feasibility of upcoming concepts before they enter
the prototyping phase.
Monthly Deliverables:
1. Design Production: Production of 3D designs for new collections.
2. Design Sign-offs: Achieve the monthly target for finalized, CEO-approved Design Packages (e.g., 5-10 approved
packages per month, depending on complexity).
3. Library Management: Update the Woodconcept Sales-Design Library with the finalized, high-quality renders and
technical specs for all newly approved products.
Quarterly & Annual Deliverables:
1. Process Audit: Analyze the design bottlenecks. Identify why certain designs required excessive revisions and propose
solutions.
2. Material Sourcing Input: Work with Purchasing and the CEO to suggest new, cost-effective, or innovative
materials/hardware.
3. Collection Launch Success: Successfully transition the annual quota of new designs from concept to hand-off
readiness.
4. Standardization Updates: Update the company’s internal design guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
based on the year's lessons.
5. Personal Development: Complete an annual self-assessment and upskilling plan (e.g., learning a new rendering
software).
Qualifications:
Hard Skills:
1. At least 2 years of experience in design; furniture knowledge is an advantage.
2. Project Management Tools: Trello, Jira, Google Sheets, and other task tracking systems.
3. Strong Written and Verbal Communication Skills.
4. Document Preparation.
5. Meeting Management.
Soft Skills:
1. Proactivity. Attention to Detail.
2. Initiative/Ownership.
3. Flexibility.
4. Logical and Critical Thinking.
5. Collaboration: Work effectively with all internal teams (CS, Merch, PD, QC).
