How we work
You’ll be part of a
globally distributed team built on trust, ownership, and self-management.
We focus on
outcomes over activity — prioritizing clear ownership, pragmatic decision-making, and accountability for results over rigid processes. Collaboration is central to how we operate: we communicate openly, involve the right people early, and continuously improve how we build products and teams together.
About this role
We're looking for a
Head of Product Design to own the quality of the user experience across TaxDome. It's a complex B2B platform with non-linear workflows, many user roles, and two sides: accounting firms and their clients. You'll lead a compact team of senior and staff-level product designers with a high degree of ownership.
Your job is not to add a layer of approval on top of them. It's to set the direction for the whole design function and build the systems that keep UX quality high without depending on you personally. You'll also represent design at the
executive level.
We're in the middle of an AI-first transformation of how we build product. Designers prototype in code, the design system is becoming the foundation for AI-generated UI, and small teams ship fast. We need a
leader who has already changed how a design team works, and who can show what changed as a result.
It's a fully remote role, we are hiring
across the EU, with a preference for candidates working within CET (±3 hours).
What you’ll be responsible for
- Design function leadership
- Set the vision and operating model for product design and tie it to product and business strategy.
- Lead senior and staff-level designers through shared principles, a clear quality bar, and explicit areas of ownership, not through micromanagement.
- Build the career framework and calibration for staff, roles, and hire to close gaps.
- Make designers accountable for UX outcomes end to end, from problem framing to what happens after release.
- UX quality system
- Define what good UX means for TaxDome in concrete, checkable terms, and make that definition shared across teams.
- Build quality mechanisms that work at scale without you in every review: design principles, decision-focused reviews, post-release feedback loops, and UX signals from the shipped product.
- Catch and fix UX drift and inconsistency across modules, roles, and teams.
- AI-first design process
- Lead the design team's shift to AI-augmented work: prototyping in code, AI-generated UI on top of the design system, faster research synthesis.
- Drive adoption across the team, not just personal use, and measure the impact on speed and quality.
- Set guardrails so that faster generation doesn't lower the quality bar.
- Design system
- Own the design system strategy as a product: governance, patterns for complex workflows, adoption by designers and engineers.
- Keep design and code tightly integrated with Frontend, so the system stays the single source of truth.
- Cross-functional partnership
- Be the strategic design partner for Product, Engineering, Research, Analytics, and Marketing leadership (VP and C-level).
- Align design capacity with business priorities, and push back with data and reasoning when needed.
- Ensure design decisions are grounded in data, research, and usability testing rather than personal preference.
What you bring
Must-have
- 5+ years leading a design function as Head of Design, Head of UX, or Design Director, owning the whole function rather than a single team. This includes leading senior designers you didn't hire or grow yourself.
- Deep experience with complex products: non-linear workflows, multiple user roles, intricate dependencies (vertical SaaS, fintech, ERP, regulated domains).
- A track record of changing how a design function works (operating model, quality process, or team structure), with a clear before and after and a way you knew it worked.
- We need a leader who has already changed how a design team works, and who can show what changed as a result.
- Experience building and evolving a design system as a product and driving its adoption with engineering.
- Strong working relationships with executive leaders. You set direction and defend design decisions, not just follow them.
- Comfort with a fast pace, short iteration cycles, and little bureaucracy.
Nice-to-have
- Hands-on experience leading AI adoption at the team level, including how you got people to adopt it and how you checked that it stuck.
- Accounting, tax, or fintech domain experience.
- Design-to-code experience: prototyping in code, tokens, Storybook, working in GitHub.
- Experience with two-sided B2B2C products.
