About the role

In this role, you will lead a team responsible for driving operational effectiveness, technology-enabled business solutions, and continuous improvement across our Group Benefits organization. This role combines people leadership, strategic planning, and business partnership to ensure processes, systems, vendors, and initiatives deliver meaningful value to the business and our customers.

You will work closely with operational leaders, technology partners, and vendors to prioritize work, optimize resources, and deliver solutions that improve performance, scalability, and customer outcomes.

What you will do

Lead and Develop High-Performing Teams

Inspire, coach, and develop a team of Business Analysts, Configuration Analysts, and specialists.
Foster an inclusive, accountable, and growth-oriented culture where employees can do their best work.
Establish clear goals, performance expectations, and development plans aligned with business priorities.
Build team capabilities to support current and future organizational needs.

Drive Business Results and Operational Excellence

Lead business analysis, automation, and solution delivery efforts that improve operational effectiveness and customer experience.
Oversee work intake, prioritization, capacity planning, and execution across a portfolio of initiatives.
Use data, metrics, and business insights to inform decisions, improve processes, and measure outcomes.
Identify opportunities to streamline operations and implement continuous improvement practices.

Partner Across the Organization

Collaborate with business and technology leaders to align priorities, resources, and delivery plans.
Influence decisions and navigate competing priorities to achieve shared business objectives.
Serve as a trusted advisor, helping stakeholders translate business needs into practical, scalable solutions.
Build strong relationships across teams, vendors, and business partners to drive results.

Ensure Quality and Solution Effectiveness

Lead business requirements, testing, and user acceptance activities to ensure solutions meet business needs.
Promote best practices, governance, and consistency across business analysis and solution delivery processes.
Support the successful implementation of technology and operational changes through thoughtful planning and execution.

Manage Strategic Vendor Partnerships

Oversee key vendor relationships, service level performance, and issue resolution.
Partner with internal stakeholders to evaluate vendor effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
Support budget management, contract oversight, and vendor governance activities.

Compensation

Salary Range: $106,400 – $177,300 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.

Who You Are

6+ years of progressive experience in business operations, business analysis, project management, or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience leading teams, coaching employees, and driving measurable business results.
Experience partnering across business and technology organizations to deliver complex initiatives.
Knowledge of user acceptance testing (UAT), operational processes, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Experience in Group Benefits insurance, including Short-Term Disability (STD), Long-Term Disability (LTD), Life, and Absence Management products and operations preferred.
An experienced people leader who is passionate about developing talent, building inclusive teams, and creating a culture of accountability and belonging.
A strategic thinker who can connect day-to-day execution to broader business goals and organizational priorities.
Skilled at influencing stakeholders, building partnerships, and leading through change in a collaborative environment.
Adept at balancing competing priorities, managing resources effectively, and making sound business decisions.
Experienced in business analysis, project leadership, operational improvement, and technology-enabled business solutions.
A continuous improvement mindset with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Professional certifications related to business analysis, project management, leadership, or process improvement are a plus.
Experience with Fineos and/or claims systems migrations is a plus.
Bachelor's degree preferred high school diploma required.
Ability to travel as needed to support the business.

Travel:

Required Training & Professional Development
All newly hired people leaders with direct reports are required to complete a comprehensive leadership development program within their first year. This program includes both virtual and in-person training. The in-person sessions will take place at Symetra’s corporate headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. Symetra covers all travel and accommodation expenses.
