Head of Pharmacy IT Development
SS&C is a leading provider of mission-critical, AI-powered technology and services empowering financial services and healthcare organizations to work smarter, faster, and securely. Founded in 1986, SS&C is headquartered in Windsor, Connecticut, and has offices worldwide. More than 23,000 financial services and healthcare organizations, from the world's largest companies to small and mid-market firms, rely on SS&C for expertise, scale, and technology.
Job Description
SS&C Health is seeking an accomplished technology executive to lead Pharmacy IT Development across our pharmacy technology portfolio, with primary responsibility for the engineering, modernization, scalability and production readiness of the DomaniRx platform.
The Head of Pharmacy IT Development will own the end-to-end software engineering organization responsible for building and evolving SS&C Health's pharmacy technology capabilities. This leader will translate product and client priorities into reliable, scalable technology while establishing the engineering discipline required to operate mission-critical healthcare platforms at scale.
The role requires a leader who combines deep technology expertise with strong execution discipline and an understanding of healthcare and pharmacy operations. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable establishing technology strategy, reviewing architecture, driving complex delivery programs, developing engineering talent, and personally engaging when critical production or client issues require executive leadership.
This leader will partner closely with Pharmacy Product, Operations, Implementation, Client Success, Information Security and other SS&C technology organizations and will be a key leader in SS&C Health's continued modernization and growth.
Key Responsibilities
Technology and Engineering Leadership
• Own the Pharmacy IT Development organization and establish clear accountability for engineering delivery, architecture, technical quality and production readiness.
• Define and execute the technology strategy and engineering roadmap for DomaniRx and related pharmacy capabilities, ensuring alignment with SS&C Health's product, client and commercial priorities.
• Establish engineering standards for architecture, software development, testing, deployment, observability, resiliency and performance.
• Ensure the platform can support the scale, availability, transaction volumes and response-time requirements of large health plans and pharmacy programs.
• Drive modernization while maintaining the stability and integrity of existing production environments.
Delivery and Execution
• Create a predictable engineering delivery model with clear commitments, milestones, dependencies, risks and measurable outcomes.
• Partner with Product leadership to convert business and regulatory requirements into executable engineering roadmaps and release plans.
• Own technology execution across major releases, client implementations, migrations and strategic programs.
• Establish rigorous release-readiness and production-readiness criteria so that quality is demonstrated through evidence rather than assumed based on schedule completion.
• Identify critical-path issues early and drive them to resolution with clear owners and dates.
Platform Quality and Production Integrity
• Establish a culture in which reliability, deterministic processing, security and operational resilience are fundamental engineering requirements.
• Drive improvements in automated testing, regression coverage, CI/CD controls, code quality, defect prevention and engineering observability.
• Ensure appropriate controls exist for rollback, recovery, transaction integrity, data consistency and failure handling.
• Partner with Operations and Infrastructure teams to ensure production incidents are rapidly contained, root causes are understood and permanent corrective actions are implemented.
• Use measurable engineering and production metrics to identify systemic problems rather than repeatedly treating individual symptoms.
Pharmacy and Regulatory Capabilities
• Ensure the technology organization can reliably support complex pharmacy benefit administration and claims adjudication across Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid and other lines of business.
• Develop the engineering capabilities necessary to respond rapidly to regulatory and industry requirements, including CMS mandates and other federally required pharmacy changes.
• Build reusable, configurable capabilities rather than relying on client-specific customization wherever possible.
• Partner with domain experts to ensure technology design reflects real-world pharmacy workflows, regulatory requirements and client operating models.
AI Automation and Engineering Productivity
• Make AI-assisted software development and automation core components of the Pharmacy engineering operating model.
• Drive adoption of AI across requirements analysis, software development, testing, defect analysis, documentation and production support.
• Establish measurable productivity and quality outcomes from AI adoption, including reduced development cycle time, increased automated test coverage, improved defect detection and lower cost of delivery.
• Partner with the SS&C Health AI Center of Excellence and broader SS&C technology organization to reuse enterprise capabilities and accelerate innovation.
Architecture and Modernization
• Own the long-term technical architecture of the Pharmacy platform in partnership with enterprise architecture and product leadership.
• Reduce unnecessary technical debt and complexity while improving modularity, configurability and interoperability.
• Ensure APIs, data models, orchestration capabilities and integration patterns support an open, modular ecosystem and enable clients to integrate SS&C technology with their broader healthcare environments.
• Balance modernization investment with client commitments and near-term commercial priorities.
Organization and Talent
• Build a high-performing engineering organization with clear roles, accountability and performance expectations.
• Develop strong engineering leaders and create appropriate succession plans for critical positions.
• Ensure the organization has the right mix of pharmacy domain knowledge, architecture expertise, software engineering capability, quality engineering and emerging AI skills.
• Establish a culture that values ownership, technical excellence, transparency, urgency and continuous improvement.
• Hold leaders accountable for outcomes rather than activity.
Executive Accountability
The Head of Pharmacy IT Development will be accountable for measurable outcomes including:
• Predictable delivery against committed release and implementation dates
• Production stability and platform availability
• Software quality and escaped-defect reduction
• Automated testing and regression coverage
• Platform performance and scalability
• Security and engineering control compliance
• Reduction in technical debt
• Engineering productivity and cost efficiency
• AI and automation adoption
• Successful execution of major client migrations and implementations
• Regulatory readiness, including Medicare and Medicaid requirements
• Development of a scalable and sustainable engineering organization
