Job Title: General Manager, two Business Units
Location: Remote, United States (regular onsite time at two sites, one in the Upper Midwest and one in the Pacific Northwest)
Employment Type: Full-time
Company: Solen Software Group

About Solen Software Group

Solen Software Group is an investment and operating company that acquires and operates proven software businesses with significant growth potential across a variety of vertical markets, enabling each to become a market leader in its niche. Solen's portfolio spans Human Resource Technology, Fleet Telematics, Asset Management, E-Health, Document Management, and other innovative software solutions. Solen is backed by a group of advisors and investors who have built software businesses of material scale (10–100M in ARR) and have advised many more. We are at the beginning of a decades-long journey, and every decision we make reflects that long time horizon.

Company Overview

Two established vertical software businesses, each decades old, profitable, and deeply embedded with the customers they serve. Both sell into government health and human services agencies across the United States. One is the system of recording their staff work every day. The other carries the communication between those agencies and the people they serve.

About the role

You will run both businesses as a single operating leader with two P&Ls — hands-on, with no staff function underneath you and no layer between you and the customer. You'll personally sit in renewal conversations, read RFPs, price deals, and decide what gets built. The mandate is growth and durable profitability, in that order, without breaking two businesses customers have trusted for years.

Key Responsibilities

Growth & Revenue

  • Own the annual budget and organic growth target for both businesses — build it, defend it, deliver it
  • Own the combined revenue number; build the pipeline and carry a quota until there's someone credible to hand it to
  • Build a repeatable go-to-market motion where growth has historically run on relationships, not process
  • Take over the sales, renewal, and public-tender motion in one business as its founder moves into an advisory role, with no coverage gap
  • Test whether the two customer bases can be sold to jointly — prove it with signed contracts, or close the question and move on

Retention

  • Own GRR and NRR at both businesses; understand why customers leave, fix the causes, and run a save motion on at-risk accounts
  • Personally build the relationships at the top 20 accounts across both books

Profitability & Capital Allocation

  • Own both P&Ls and defend every dollar of spend
  • Own the mix between product, sales, service, and administration, and move it as the plan requires
  • Manage cash, not just profit — working capital, collections, and deferred revenue are part of the score

People & Organization

  • Assess both teams honestly; keep and develop who can grow with the business, address who can't
  • Set a leadership structure across the two businesses that people understand

Product

  • Set the roadmap for both products against revenue, not internal preference
  • Decide whether and how the two products should connect, and what that's worth to customers

Required Qualifications

  • P&L ownership of a software business, roughly $3M–$15M in revenue — the number, not a function inside someone else's number
  • Sold to government, public sector, or regulated healthcare buyers; you know how procurement, RFPs, tenders, and grant cycles actually run
  • You do the sales work yourself — not manage it
  • Comfortable reading a P&L by function and reallocating without a CFO
  • Have taken over from a founder or long-tenured leader and kept the customers and the team
  • Willing to travel roughly one week a month across two locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience in public health, community health, human services, or healthcare IT
  • Experience in recurring-revenue businesses where renewals and retention drive the outcome
  • Experience running two business units, brands, or product lines at once
  • Experience in a permanent-capital, holding company, or family office structure

Not a Fit for

  • First-time GMs looking for a place to learn
  • Executives from large companies who need a large team beneath them to be effective
  • Operators whose track record is venture-funded scaling with capital behind them
  • Anyone whose plan for two brands is to merge them in year one

The expected OTE salary for this position is between $160,000 USD - $200,000 USD. Salary is based on a number of factors including market conditions, location, and may vary depending on job-related skills and experience.

Solen-isms (How We Operate)

  • Ownership Mindset: We own the mission. We don't wait to be told. We lead, fix, and build as if it were ours. When problems arise, we run toward them, not away.
  • Benchmark to Best: We seek out excellence. We measure ourselves against the best and adapt quickly, always looking for the edge that moves us forward.
  • Openly Self-Critical: Leaders go first: they surface their misses early, ask for direct feedback, and turn “game film” into better decisions and better systems.
  • Disagree & Commit: Leaders disagree openly and constructively, regardless of title or tenure, because truth is how we avoid bureaucracy and benchmark to best.
  • Figureitoutiveness: Embracing challenges, fostering growth, and taking initiative, leaders thrive on hard work and high failure tolerance.
  • Mutual Elevation: Committed to growth, elevating teams, developing future leaders, and removing barriers to mastery and joy.
  • Learn-it-alls: Learn-it-alls, not know-it-alls, embracing failure as part of growth and progress.
  • Pioneering: Pioneering driven by opportunity, using first principles thinking and unbound by tradition or rules.
  • Will to Win: Leaders relentlessly pursue potential, reject mediocrity, and get what they tolerate.
  • Dialectical: We learn through conversation. We ask, listen, question, and evolve — valuing disagreement as a tool for alignment and deeper understanding.
  • Frugality: Achieving more with less, focusing on quality, long-term value, and company-wide responsibility.
  • Candor: We communicate with integrity, transparency, and respect in all conversations.
  • Kaizen: Kaizen is continuous improvement as a way of life. Leaders make hundreds of small upgrades that compound, turning lessons into standards and standards into durable systems.
