Sales Development Representative
Location: Fully remote; preference for candidates based in the Kansas City areaHelp the brands you know and love create better experiences.SMG helps organizations understand and improve their brand, customer, and employee experiences. We work with more than 550 brands across 180+ countries, including names such as Pizza Hut, Zaxby’s, Jersey Mike’s, and L’Oréal NYX.As a Sales Development Representative, you'll be one of the first people prospective customers meet at SMG. You’ll start meaningful conversations, ask thoughtful questions, and connect the dots between customer challenges and SMG’s solutions, turning interest into qualified sales opportunities. And you won't be expected to figure everything out on your own. We'll give you the tools, coaching, and support you need to build confidence and strengthen your sales skills. What you'll do
You’ll help create new business opportunities across the industries we serve, including restaurants, retail, healthcare, and consumer services.- Research target accounts to understand their business, priorities, buyers, and potential needs.
- Identify the right people to contact and create relevant, personalized outreach.
- Start conversations through outbound calls, email, social outreach, and lead follow-up.
- Qualify prospective customers, schedule discovery meetings, and provide clear handoffs to Sales Executives.
- Work with sales leaders and teammates to prioritize accounts and improve outreach.
- Manage activity and account information in Salesforce, Outreach, and other prospecting and AI-enabled tools.
Along the way, you’ll build confidence speaking with senior business leaders, strengthen your commercial judgment, and see how your work directly contributes to the pipeline that powers SMG’s growth.
How you’ll grow
You’ll receive a structured 30/60/90-day ramp, regular coaching, and opportunities to practice outreach and learn from experienced sales teammates. As your skills and results grow, you’ll take on increasing ownership of your pipeline and sales development work.What you'll bring
You may be starting your sales career or have up to 2 years of experience in sales, business development, lead generation, or another customer-facing role. You’ll bring:- A bachelor’s degree is preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Curiosity about businesses, customers, and buying decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and confidence starting conversations.
- Resilience and the ability to keep going after hearing “not right now.”
- Organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage follow-ups.
- Comfort working toward clear goals in a quota-driven environment.
- A willingness to test new approaches, keep developing, and ask for feedback.
- Experience with SaaS, outbound prospecting, Salesforce, Outreach, or similar tools is helpful, but not required.
