WHO WE ARE

Infrastructure Platform Engineering & Delivery (IPED) and Solution and Infrastructure Engineering is the team behind SAP Cloud Infrastructure (SCI),  SAP’s sovereign-grade IaaS platform running across 15+ SAP-owned data centers worldwide. We build and operate the infrastructure that powers SAP’s most security-sensitive customers: government agencies, defense contractors, and critical national infrastructure. We are running in 15 SAP owned data centers distributed world-wide. By augmenting an opinionated OpenStack distribution with bespoke services, we are meeting the demand of SAP’s cloud business. Our roadmap includes transforming SAP Cloud Infrastructure into a public cloud offering and expanding its capabilities with new services to support SAP Business AI and SAP BTP.

As part of this role, you will be responsible for building the technology foundation of SAPs IaaS platform, working with exciting projects within the SAP Cloud Infrastructure user base. This internal and external customer-facing position is a hands-on technical role spanning across design, build, and operations with a focus on issue resolution to remove customer technical obstacles and adoption challenges. You will leverage your problem-solving expertise to help customers to realize their objectives and improve the SAP Cloud Infrastructure.  You will also own the technical delivery of complex customer engagements — from the first PoC to the validated architecture decision, supporting our commercialization team during technical engagements. You build things, break things, and document what you learn.

This role has a strong focus on Solution and Infrastructure Network engineering with emphasis on scalability, standardization, and AI excellence across large-scale cloud environments. The work requires technical depth alongside organizational influence: you need to be credible enough to set standards and persuasive enough to get other senior engineers to follow them.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Infrastructure AI Network Architecture Design and Deployment - engineering the foundation for SAP Cloud Infrastructure across the infrastructure stack, aligning with customer business objectives and technical requirements.
• Blueprints and Whitepapers Authorship: Document and share the exceptional architectural work you perform, contributing to our Documentation and knowledge base. Document technical decisions with precision. Your ADRs become the knowledge base the whole team builds on and the input Product Management uses for roadmap prioritization.
• Strategic Resolution of Customer Blockers: Identify and resolve issues that are preventing the go-live of customer success projects by applying your technical expertise. Lead discussions with Stakeholders to ensure they derive maximum value from their SAP Cloud Infrastructure investments.
• Customer and Partner Management: Lead technical discovery process during customer workshops or technical briefings, drive agendas and document decisions, including use-case qualification, sovereignty/compliance questionnaires, partner evidence intake, and clear scope definition. Build and validate proof-of-concepts for complex customer infrastructure requirements — network integration, connectivity, security, computing. You own the PoC end-to-end, from design to working demo, maintaining standardized templates, checklists, and demo assets aligned with approved service catalogs.

• Agentic AI Day-to-Day Practice: Actively integrates AI tools and agents into daily engineering tasks, troubleshooting, documentation and automation scripting,
• Context Engineering: Designs effective prompts and context inputs to extract accurate, high-quality outputs from AI models in infrastructure and DevOps contexts
• AI-Assisted Automation & Prototyping: Experience building or prototyping infrastructure runbooks or tooling with AI assistance (e.g. GitHub Copilot, SAP Joule, Claude Code)

WHAT YOU BRING

We are seeking an innovative, communicative, and self-driven individual with technical competence. Your expertise in cloud techniques, including Infrastructure-as-a-Service, containers, networking, orchestration, and automation, is highly valued.

• Degree in Computer Science, Applied Sciences, or equivalent practical experience 10+ years of relevant experience in cloud and solution infrastructure technologies.
• Systematic Approach to Complex Challenges: Demonstrate the ability to systematically tackle complex issues, maintaining a strong sense of ownership and motivation Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Excellent Communication and Presentation skills along with the ability to effectively manage critical situations through presentations. Strong written and verbal communication, you can explain a complex network topology to a customer stakeholder and write an ADR that a Product Manager can act on
• Deep understanding of data center infrastructure, SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS and also AI architectures. Including servers, storage, networking, and data center services, with proficiency in systems integration to ensure seamless operation within the existing infrastructure. 
• Expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or OpenStack, and knowledge of virtualization technologies and Kubernetes for hardware optimization.
• Proven ability to build solution and infrastructure, engaging with customers and vendors, coordinating proof of concepts, and preparing decision documents for senior management.
• Hands-on experience with networking fundamentals: and EVPN-based fabric designs is required, including deep understanding of VxLAN and modern spine-leaf architectures.
• Familiarity with minimal AI Core backend designs for inference workloads, including the specific low-latency and high-bandwidth requirements these environments demand. Designing and operating AI-optimized network infrastructure, including AI factory environments and building-block cell architectures.

We're at the core of SAP's cloud solutions, using the latest technologies to develop an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform that reaches 15 regions worldwide. We are embedded in GCO — the organization running SAP’s global cloud infrastructure. You will work closely with network engineers, product managers, and directly with customers ranging from federal agencies to global aerospace companies.
