What You'll Build As a Development Architect (f/m/d) within the EMEA engineering unit, you will be the technical authority for the Finance domain — one of the highest-value areas of the SAP customer portfolio. You will define and own the architectural direction for finance-focused AI-native enterprise solutions, bridging SAP's product strategy with the realities of customer-specific delivery. The role combines deep technical leadership with close customer engagement, and requires the ability to operate credibly at both the architecture board level and on the ground with delivery teams. You will lead the architectural direction for finance-domain AI-native solutions, driving a portfolio of customer engagements from initial proof-of-concept through to enterprise-grade production deployment.

• Reference architectures: define target and reference architectures for finance-focused autonomous AI solutions, integrating SAP S/4HANA, BTP, and Public Cloud in alignment with SAP engineering standards.
• Customer PoC to solution delivery: guide complex customer initiatives end-to-end — from use-case discovery and scoping (2–4 weeks) through PoC build (6 weeks) to solution delivery and continuous improvement.
• Reusable patterns: standardize reusable architectural patterns and libraries for the finance domain, accelerating delivery across the EMEA customer portfolio.
• Agentic AI integration: design and evolve the integration of LLM, RAG, and multi-agent frameworks into finance business processes, with an emphasis on autonomous execution and auditability.
• Team enablement: oversee specification-led engineering, validate architectural decisions in delivery teams, and mentor engineers on guardrails, MLOps, and responsible AI.
• Stakeholder alignment: align product, security, data, and platform stakeholders who may have competing constraints to ensure coherent architectural outcomes for customers.

What You Bring You bring deep expertise in designing enterprise-scale architectures, defining architectural guardrails, and guiding cross-functional teams in the responsible adoption of AI and cloud technologies. Your profile combines strategic thinking with hands-on technical depth.

• Expert-level architecture experience: designing and operating mission-critical enterprise platforms covering data, integration, training, inference, and evaluation systems.
• Cloud-native mastery: deep knowledge of cloud-native architecture, MLOps, infrastructure as code, and observability stacks — with specific experience on SAP BTP, SAP S/4HANA, or Public Cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) strongly valued.
• AI & agentic systems: hands-on experience with large language models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and multi-agent system design.
• Mentorship & governance: proven ability to mentor senior engineers, enforce architectural guardrails, and drive consistent adoption of CI/CD and responsible AI practices across teams.
• Communication: ability to articulate architectural decisions clearly to engineers, product managers, and C-level stakeholders alike.
• Finance domain knowledge: background in financial processes and the delivery of customer-specific SAP finance solutions (FI/CO, Treasury, Controlling, Financial Close) is a strong plus.
• Languages: business-level proficiency in both English and German is required.

Where You Belong SAP Customer Industry Solutions Engineering EMEA is a strategic engineering unit within SAP Industry AI and SAP Customer Industry Solutions. The team acts as a RISE enabler for enterprise customers, delivering targeted innovation through customer development projects at the intersection of SAP S/4HANA, the Business Technology Platform (BTP), Artificial Intelligence, and Public Cloud. SAP Industry AI is building purpose-built autonomous industry domains — next-generation AI tailored to industry-specific pain points that executes end-to-end across the most critical business processes through fully autonomous agentic solutions. The Autonomous Suite — the AI-driven execution backbone — combines deep industry and cross-industry agents with enterprise applications, semantically rich data, and built-in governance. You will serve as a technical authority within the EMEA Customer Industry Solutions Engineering organization, setting the standard for how large-scale, finance-domain AI-native systems are designed, governed, and delivered at SAP. This is not a narrowly technical role: the ability to decompose ambiguous problems, communicate architectural reasoning with conviction, and gain commitment from engineers who have to build what you specify matters as much as the design work itself. If you have architected enterprise-scale solutions at a senior level, understand finance processes deeply, and are ready to own architectural direction across a strategic customer portfolio — this is the right scope. The role is based in Walldorf, Germany. A regular presence at the Walldorf office is expected (approximately 3 days per week). This enables close collaboration with engineering teams, product management, and the broader SAP Industry AI organization.
