Senior Robotics Engineer, Production

Location: Los Angeles, California, United States
Employment Type: Full-Time
Department: Engineering

About the Opportunity

A fast-growing, venture-backed advanced manufacturing company is building a new model for complex manufacturing, starting with electrical wire harnesses. Unlike companies developing automation exclusively in research labs, this organization operates its own manufacturing facilities, producing complex electrical assemblies for some of the largest aerospace and defense companies in the country.  Its mission is to transform how complex products are manufactured by combining software, robotics, and advanced automation to help bring more manufacturing back to the U.S.

The company is looking for a Senior Robotics Engineer, Production to lead the technical implementation of robotics across its production lines. You'll design, build, and deploy robotic cells that automate complex, high-mix assembly tasks, working directly with industrial robots, fixtures, perception systems, and production equipment.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the technical implementation and deployment of robotic automation systems across production lines.

  • Design, build, and commission robotic cells for complex, high-mix assembly operations.

  • Develop robotic manipulation and automation solutions using classical robotics methods and learning-based approaches.

  • Program and integrate industrial and collaborative robotic arms, including UR, FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or similar platforms.

  • Develop motion planning, robot calibration, safety systems, and hardware integration capabilities.

  • Work with perception and computer vision systems to enable reliable part detection, localization, manipulation, and inspection.

  • Build and refine fixtures, end effectors, and other tooling required for automated assembly.

  • Collaborate with the Robot Learning team to integrate learned manipulation skills and perception capabilities into production systems.

  • Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on real robotic hardware to improve performance and reliability.

  • Troubleshoot production issues and drive improvements in cycle time, repeatability, throughput, and overall system performance.

  • Establish engineering standards and reusable software and hardware components for future automation deployments.

  • Help evaluate robotics platforms, equipment, and technology partners where external solutions make more sense than building internally.

  • Help hire, mentor, and develop the engineering team as the automation program grows.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.

  • Demonstrated experience building and deploying robotics systems in real-world production or industrial environments.

  • Experience owning technical implementation of robotic systems, ideally in a senior or technical leadership capacity.

  • Strong hands-on experience with industrial or collaborative robotic arms such as UR, FANUC, ABB, or KUKA.

  • Understanding of motion planning, robot calibration, manipulation, controls, and robotic safety.

  • Experience with perception, computer vision, and integrating sensing capabilities into robotic systems.

  • Strong programming skills in Python and C++.

  • Familiarity with ROS2, motion-planning frameworks, perception systems, and robotics simulation tools.

  • Experience rapidly prototyping and testing robotic systems on physical hardware.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex hardware and software integration challenges.

  • Strong ownership mindset and the ability to take technical projects from concept through production deployment.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with engineers, technicians, and manufacturing teams.

  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined under ITAR requirements.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience deploying robotic automation in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments.

  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as MuJoCo or NVIDIA Isaac Sim.

  • Experience with learning-based manipulation or robot foundation models.

  • Background in assembly automation, machine tending, material handling, or complex electromechanical manufacturing.

  • Experience designing custom fixtures, grippers, and end effectors using CAD tools.

  • Experience building production-grade robotics software and reusable automation infrastructure.

  • Previous experience at a robotics startup, advanced manufacturing company, or fast-paced engineering organization.

  • Experience leading technical projects or mentoring other robotics engineers.

Why This Role

This is an opportunity to build and deploy robotics systems in an actual manufacturing environment, rather than developing technology that remains confined to a research lab.

You'll work directly with production hardware and help solve some of the hardest challenges in automating complex assembly. Your work will move quickly from prototype to production, with the opportunity to see how your systems improve manufacturing operations in real time.

The company has raised over $112 million from leading venture capital investors and opened a new 80,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, California. It is investing heavily in the technology and infrastructure needed to scale production.

You'll join a small, senior engineering team with meaningful ownership, direct access to technical leadership, and the opportunity to shape the future of industrial robotics.
