We do this by building an industry-leading incident management platform that allows companies around the world to consistently and quickly resolve incidents. We are not simply transforming an industry, we are carving out a new multi-billion-dollar category ourselves and need incredible talent to achieve this ambitious goal together.

Customers love Rootly. Some of the fastest-growing companies around the world such as NVIDIA, DoorDash, Uber, Canva, Tripadvisor, Squarespace and more rely on Rootly to power their critical incident management process. They obsess over our delightful enterprise-ready platform and unique partnership model. See why our customers have reviewed us 5 stars on G2.

Investors love Rootly. We are backed by some of the most respected funds in the world from Y Combinator to operators like the CTO of Dropbox and GitHub. We'd be happy to disclose our entire funding and profitability picture live during the interview. As a culture we relentlessly put transparency first. We conduct monthly financial reviews as a team so everyone has a pulse on the health of the business and publish what we are building in our weekly changelog.

About the Role

As a Platform Engineer on Infrastructure, you'll share responsibility for everything Platform owns: our cloud infrastructure, the reliability of the systems behind Rootly, observability, CI/CD and release tooling, datastores, cost efficiency, and security hardening alongside our Security team.

You'll contribute to projects across those areas, join existing projects as a second engineer to speed them up and spread knowledge, take your turn on call, and help keep the platform healthy day to day. You'll work with our platform engineering leader and build depth across the platform as the team grows.

What You'll Do

Make changes to Rootly's AWS infrastructure as code, and keep it reviewable and safe to change.
Build credential rotation for databases, Redis, and application secrets, in partnership with Security.
Tune alerting so it pages on customer impact, not noise, and help keep observability spend in check.
Take part in multi-region failover drills and help close the gaps they find.
Pick up platform work wherever it's needed: CI fixes, datastore runbooks, small tools that remove toil.
Write runbooks and docs so the next engineer can handle the same problem without you.
Take part in on-call and retrospectives, and turn what you learn into lasting fixes.

What You'll Need

We care about impact, ownership, and technical judgement. Degrees and big-name logos are not required. What matters is your ability to execute, learn quickly, and collaborate.

Minimum Qualifications

3+ years building or running production systems, including time in Platform, SRE, DevOps, or Infrastructure work.
Hands-on experience with AWS and Terraform or OpenTofu.
Working knowledge of monitoring and alerting, with Datadog or a similar tool.
Experience with on-call and incident response for a production service.
You write real code to solve infrastructure problems, not shell scripts alone.
Curiosity across the stack: you're as happy debugging a CI pipeline as an IAM policy.
You ask for help early, write things down, and plan your work rather than relying on heroics.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with infrastructure-as-code workflows and automation at scale.
Some time working in a Rails codebase.
Experience with Ruby and Go.

What Success Looks Like

By 6 to 12 months you will have:

Joined the on-call rotation and handled incidents with confidence.
Become a second engineer on projects that today depend on one person, so they move faster and no longer stall when someone is out.
Shipped credential rotation for databases, Redis, and application secrets with our Security team.
Reduced alert noise so pages map to real customer impact.
Left behind runbooks and docs that other engineers use.

Our Tech Stack

Backend: Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, Redis, Sidekiq, AWS Lambda, ECS, Kafka, DynamoDB.
Frontend: Turbo, Stimulus, ViewComponents.
Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform (IaC), Datadog.
