ABOUT CIVIC ELEMENT

We provide both white-glove data services and self-service tools. Civic Element is a subsidiary of Prompt.io.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Prompt.io is hiring a Director of Civic Data to help turn civic, campaign, fundraising, and advocacy data into reliable insights and useful products. You’ll work with colleagues across data, product, engineering, and customer-facing teams to shape high-quality datasets, answer real operational questions with sound statistical methods, and make findings understandable and actionable. You’ll balance analytical rigor with practical delivery, while being clear about assumptions, uncertainty, and appropriate use. This role is a hands-on strategic role.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Translate customer and business questions into measurable analytical problems, selecting methods that fit the decision and the available data.
- Profile, clean, join, and validate data from a wide variety of internal and external data sources.
- Develop and evaluate statistical and machine-learning methods for audience segmentation, supporter and donor outcomes, performance measurement, and forecasting.
- Present findings and recommendations to leadership, and cross-functional teams, translating complex analysis into clear business implications while explaining assumptions, uncertainty, and limitations.
- Build reusable queries, features, analytical workflows, and data-quality checks that can support key objectives across all Prompt.io business units.
- Explore performance across programs, lists, vendors, channels, and audience segments; turn the results into clear recommendations for technical and nontechnical partners.
- Document methods, model limitations, and data assumptions; work with partners to support privacy-conscious access, responsible use, and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Recommend the tools, processes, and staffing needed as demand grows, and hire or develop the team as resources are approved.
- Reports to the President of Civic Element while working closely with the Prompt.io Product, Sales, & Engineering teams
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Applied experience in data science, statistical analysis, or a closely related field, with examples of analysis that informed a real decision or product.
- Strong SQL and Python skills, including experience preparing and analyzing complex, imperfect datasets.
- A solid grounding in statistical inference, experimental design, model evaluation, and the practical use of machine-learning methods.
- The judgment to choose interpretable, fit-for-purpose methods; validate results; and communicate uncertainty and limitations clearly.
- Experience building repeatable analytical workflows and partnering with product, engineering, operations, or client-facing teams.
- Careful data stewardship, including attention to privacy, access controls, documentation, and potential bias in data or model outputs.
- Clear written and verbal communication, curiosity, ownership, and the ability to move work forward in a changing environment.
- Experience with campaign, political, advocacy, nonprofit, or fundraising data—and with cloud data warehouses or reporting platforms—is a plus. Familiarity with sources such as BigQuery, Google Sheets, CRMs, or donation platforms may be useful
- Practical experience using AI tools and AI-assisted workflows to support coding, data preparation, analysis, and documentation, with sound judgment about when to use them, how to validate their outputs, and how to protect sensitive data while maintaining analytical rigor.
- 5-7+ years of experience in Analytics, Data Science, or a related field
- PHD or Masters in Data Science or similar field is preferred but not required
HOW YOU WORK
- You take ownership and make progress without waiting for perfect instructions.
- You care about analytical quality and about whether the result is useful to the people making decisions.
- You surface assumptions early, document decisions, and communicate clearly across teams.
- You’re a thoughtful collaborator who can lead an analysis, incorporate feedback, and ask for help when needed.
