Staff Software Engineer
We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join Procore's Collaboration Division. In this role, you'll focus on creating the common cores of our future application platform, empowering internal and external teams to efficiently and collaboratively create and deliver experiences on the Procore Platform. In addition to playing a key role in our technology strategy, your work will directly enable all experiences built on the platform to seamlessly interact and enable our customer's unique construction needs on a global scale. All while driving immediate and long-term strategic direction for major parts of the technology stack, you'll identify critical areas based on future growth and collaborate with Product, UX, and other groups to develop roadmaps and tackle initiatives.
This position reports to the Senior Manager, Software Engineering and will work from Cairo, Egypt. We're looking for someone to join us immediately.
What you'll do:
erve as the primary technical leader and point of contact for your team, ensuring platform services act as a high-performance "common core" aligned with Procore's global technical strategy
Take accountability for the long-term health, stability, and high-availability of your domain, moving the stack toward a robust, service-oriented architecture capable of supporting millions of global users
Partner with Product, UX, and other engineering groups to drive the technical roadmap, balancing immediate delivery with the required 3+ year technical evolution of the services
Build and maintain underlying application platform features that enable internal and external teams to efficiently and collaboratively deliver experiences through a flexible and extensible platform layer
Design AI-ready architectures to support future agentic capabilities while leveraging AI-assisted development tools and workflows to accelerate delivery and engineering velocity
Act as a technical pacesetter and role model for the Cairo-based engineering team, up-leveling technical discourse and fostering a culture of psychological safety, rigorous code review, and architectural excellence
Proactively identify and resolve areas of high technical ambiguity within your domain, using data and proof-of-concept work to create clarity and unblock delivery for the wider organization
Drive a deep understanding of the operational context of our services, taking direct action to optimize the performance, reliability, and operating costs of our global platform assets
What we're looking for:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related field, or comparable work experience
8+ years of professional software development experience, with a track record of acting as a technical lead for a business-critical domain or multiple interrelated teams
Deep expertise in designing and building highly scalable software within a Service-Oriented Architecture, specifically focusing on APIs, asynchronous streaming platforms, and real-time systems
Proficiency in Java, Node, Kafka, and Ruby on Rails, with the ability to generate reference code and architectural patterns that other engineers can leverage
Expertise in choosing and scaling relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) data stores for high-volume workloads, backed by a strong mental model of distributed systems and non-functional requirements
Experience with modern web development across the entire lifecycle, including a robust understanding of monitoring and observability tools like Datadog, HoneyComb, New Relic, Sumo Logic, and/or OpenTelemetry (OTel)
Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) and integrating emerging technologies like agentic workflows or LLM-driven capabilities where they provide clear business value
Excellent communication skills and experience documenting complex solutions, paired with a proven ability to mentor senior talent and navigate organizational boundaries as a Strategic Accelerator
