On behalf of our client, we're expanding a global Payments Partnerships and Merchants Relations team, and we need someone who can operate at both levels — moving fluidly between the faster, commercially-driven world of PSPs and the slower, more rigorous world of EMIs and banks — treating every relationship as a long-term partnership, not a one-off transaction.
About the Role
We're looking for a PSP / EMI Onboarding & Relationship Manager who doesn't just process onboarding paperwork — someone who genuinely understands how EMIs, PSPs, and banks think, and who builds relationships deep enough to know why a partner says yes or no, not just that they did.
This role has real depth to it: EMI relationships are a different game than PSP relationships. EMIs sit closer to banking-grade regulation — longer onboarding cycles, stricter documentation standards, more scrutiny on ownership structures, source of funds, and risk profiles. Getting an EMI relationship right takes patience, precision, and the ability to speak the language of compliance officers, not just business development contacts. PSPs, by comparison, tend to move faster and are more commercially flexible — but even there, the right relationship can make or break a merchant's setup.
What You'll Do
Partner & Relationship Management
Manage onboarding processes with EMIs, PSPs, banks, and acquirers — recognizing that EMI and banking cases demand more rigor, patience, and documentation depth than typical PSP onboarding
Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with financial partners — the kind that get you a faster answer when it matters, especially with EMIs where trust is built slowly
Evaluate new PSPs, EMIs, and jurisdictions with a critical eye — not every partner or market is the right fit, and you know how to tell the difference
Merchant & Client Support
Support merchants and clients with payment needs and onboarding, guiding them through what can be a confusing process — especially when EMI-level scrutiny is involved
Prepare KYB packages, bank forms, and documentation with precision — EMI cases in particular leave little room for error or missing detail
Anticipate merchant needs before they become blockers
Process & Tracking
Track progress and relationship history diligently in CRM — not as an afterthought, but as a real tool for managing complex, multi-party processes
Stay on top of multiple onboarding cases simultaneously, understanding that EMI cases typically require more time, follow-up, and attention to detail than PSP cases
Who You Are
You have 1+ year of experience in fintech, PSP, EMI, payments, acquiring, or consulting
You understand SEPA/SWIFT, acquiring basics, and merchant flows — not just in theory, but in how they actually play out in onboarding
You grasp the difference in complexity between EMI and PSP relationships — you know EMIs require more depth, documentation, and patience, and you don't rush a process that needs rigor
You have strong communication and relationship management skills — you know how to build trust with banks and EMIs, not just submit forms to them
You're a balanced perfectionist — detail-oriented enough to catch what others miss, but pragmatic enough to keep things moving
You genuinely like understanding why things work the way they do in banking and EMI relationships, not just following the process
You can juggle multiple projects at once without losing precision on any of them
You're fluent in English — confident and precise, whether drafting a KYB pack, negotiating with a bank, or explaining a complex onboarding requirement to a merchant
You have a problem-solving mindset — when a partner says no, you look for the real reason and the next path forward
You're proactive by default — you follow up before being asked, and you flag risks before they become blockers
Nice to Have
Knowledge of AML/KYC frameworks and governance structures
Familiarity with company formations and corporate structuring
Experience working with merchants in high-risk industries
