P**osition Summary** We are seeking an experienced **Data & Solution Architect** to lead the architecture, review, and end-to-end delivery of governed data products in an established **Microsoft Fabric** environment. The foundational Microsoft Fabric infrastructure is already provisioned. This engagement focuses on evaluating the existing setup during an initial planning phase, defining and enforcing robust architectural patterns, and deploying **1 to 2 production-ready data products**. A core emphasis of this role will be designing the **Microsoft Purview architecture** to ensure end-to-end metadata management, cataloging, and governance for critical enterprise data. **Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities** - **Architecture Review & Planning:** - Evaluate the existing Microsoft Fabric environment setup, OneLake structure, and operational framework during the planning phase to ensure readiness for scaled delivery. - Define best-practice technical standards, ingestion strategies, and integration patterns across the platform. - **Data Architecture & Product Delivery:** - Design and implement **Medallion Architecture** patterns (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers) within Fabric. - Deliver 1 to 2 core data products to validate end-to-end data pipelines, ETL/ELT ingestion patterns, and semantic models. - Establish scalable patterns for data engineering, transformation, and storage across Fabric engines. - **Data Governance & Metadata Management:** - Design and implement the **Microsoft Purview** governance architecture integrated with MS Fabric. - Establish metadata management, data cataloging, line-of-sight data lineage, and classification rules for critical datasets. - Implement sensitivity labeling, access policies, and data protection controls in alignment with enterprise compliance standards. **Key Skills & Experience Required** - **Enterprise Data Architecture:** Proven experience as a Lead/Senior Data Architect designing enterprise-grade, cloud-native data architectures. - **Microsoft Fabric:** Hands-on experience with MS Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouses, Warehouses, Dataflows Gen2, Data Factory, Direct Lake mode). - **Data Modeling & Governance:** Deep understanding of Medallion Architecture design, Data Mesh/Data Product principles, and data modeling methodologies. - **Microsoft Purview:** Strong experience designing and deploying Microsoft Purview for automated scanning, data cataloging, lineage mapping, and sensitivity/classification enforcement within Azure/Fabric environments. - **ETL/ELT Engineering:** Deep knowledge of ingestion patterns, pipeline orchestration, and metadata-driven frameworks. - **Public Sector Context:** Experience delivering data solutions within NZ Government or public sector agencies is highly advantageous.
