Senior Full Stack Developer (React.js, Python)

About Peregrine

Peregrine Advisors is a rapidly growing AI and data innovation hub helping government solve hard problems and deliver better outcomes. We work across the full lifecycle—from strategy and governance through architecture, engineering, analytics, AI, visualization, and training—for clients including the SEC, PCAOB, DDOT, and DCAA.

Our clients describe our support as “absolutely excellent” and our people as “instrumental to organization’s success.” Winner of the United Nations COP27 Datathon, our work has earned all Exceptional CPARS ratings, SEC Chair’s Awards, the SEC Vision Award, and recognition from FDA leadership.

We are also built differently. Peregrine is the first and only social enterprise organized as a Benefit Corporation and SBA 8(a) company focused on AI and data for government. We believe business success should create client value, social value, and opportunity for our people.

As we enter our next stage of growth, we need dependable, motivated, and skilled people who have a combination of intellectual curiosity and intellectual courage. With new clients, larger programs, and expanding responsibilities, the people joining Peregrine now will have the opportunity to help shape the company we become.

People first. Ownership always.

We solve problems through people, process, and technology—in that order. Technology matters, but people make transformation happen. That principle defines our culture. Trust and motivation are the foundational pillars of delivery on which our skills stand. We hire people we can trust, who care deeply about what they do, take ownership, learn quickly, help one another, and refuse to walk past a problem because it belongs to someone else.

At Peregrine, you are not joining simply to fill a position. You are joining a team, taking ownership of a mission, and helping build a company. If that excites you, we should talk.

At Peregrine Advisors, you will take cloud-native Python services from refinement through production on Amazon Web Services (AWS), retaining ownership of each service's design and delivery throughout. But we hire people, not seats. As the work evolves, you will move to where the hardest problems are.

This is a hybrid work arrangement based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and the commuting cadence varies by assignment. The initial engagement requires United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination.

Your first project

Expect your first project to make you the one who decides how a solution's components fit together, and the one who carries it through production. Depending on the assignment, you may:

• For your portion of the platform, design Python services and application components and carry them through delivery.
• Produce the design of the React.js front end where users do their work, and define the standards other developers follow when they build it.
• Determine how your services connect to the wider platform by designing their data flows, integrations, and application programming interfaces (APIs).
• Use Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS), and AWS Lambda to create automated workflows.
• Make application security standards, code reviews, and test-driven development part of the quality development practices you lead.
• Create and improve your team's automated tests, the continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines it uses for releases, and the practices it uses to support production.
• Mentor fellow developers, conduct code reviews, work through difficult production problems, and settle design tradeoffs.
• Estimate projects accurately, and play a part in planning them, forecasting delivery, and allocating resources.
• Make implementation and review faster with AI-assisted development tools, and remain responsible for the code you ship.

You deliver a unified solution in which the components work together and meet the same quality standard. You automate spreadsheet-based validations and workflows, and the developers around you improve because of how you work.

This is where you start, not the shape of your career here.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional hands-on back-end software development experience in Python
• 5+ years of hands-on front-end software development experience in React.js
• Bachelor's degree
• A strong practical background developing cloud-native applications on AWS with Amazon RDS, Amazon SQS, Amazon S3, and AWS Lambda
• An advanced understanding that spans database design, data modeling, object-oriented programming, design patterns, distributed systems, and software architecture
• A strong background working with relational database systems such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Oracle
• A strong background using NoSQL databases, for example DynamoDB or MongoDB
• Strength in analysis, troubleshooting, and solving problems
• A background directing Agile delivery in Scrum or Kanban, with the work tracked in Jira or a similar issue tracker
• An established record of directing a team of developers and mentoring them
• Direct, practical use of AI-assisted developer tools, for example GitHub Copilot or Amazon Q Developer
• Excellent communication skills that let you engage technical teams, business stakeholders, and executive leaders
• Proficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel

Preferred

• A background in putting CI/CD pipelines in place and following DevSecOps best practices
• Certification in either Python or AWS
• Prior work in information technology for the federal government
• Experience heading technical delivery teams on consulting engagements involving direct client interaction

Who you are

You are accountable for what you build and invest time in helping fellow developers improve through code reviews, explanations of your reasoning, and the standard you establish. Others turn to you for difficult decisions because your judgment is sound, and you maintain a steady, productive team as priorities change. You experiment, fail, learn, and repeat quickly. You would rather own an outcome than be handed a task.

What you bring

• Deep expertise in modern cloud development, broad enough to enhance systems that are already running or to create something new.
• Judgment to compare competing solutions, resolve design tradeoffs between components, and take ownership of technical direction in the area assigned to you.
• Strong delivery discipline covering accessibility, secure coding, code review, automated testing, and version control, with the standing to establish these practices for a team.
• The ability to explain your work in plain terms to those who depend on it, and to listen carefully for their needs.
• Uncompromising rigor whenever accuracy and auditability are on the line.

You adapt your development workflow as AI tools evolve, using them to help implement, test, and improve the components you own. You give the tools clear context, review and test their output, and remain accountable for the code you deliver.

When we talk

Be prepared to discuss a difficult problem you worked through, the decisions you made, what happened, and what you learned.

Benefits

This is a full-time W-2 position with a salary of $150,000 to $180,000 per year.

Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance with the employee premium fully paid and half of dependent premiums; employer-paid life, accidental death, and short-term and long-term disability insurance; a 401(k) with an employer match of up to 4% of salary; unlimited paid time off; and sponsored professional certifications and continuing education.

What we offer

You will work alongside developers, engineers, data scientists, architects, and strategists, on work ranging from strategy to implementation. We support your development across assignments and clients through extensive onboarding, sponsored professional certifications such as the Data Management Capability Assessment Model (DCAM) and AWS technical certifications, and rotation across functions to expand your skills and perspective. The mission is real, the problems are hard, and you own what you ship.

What we commit to

As a Benefit Corporation, our commitment runs three ways: real, measurable value for our clients; government that works better for the public; and a team that makes everyone in it better.

We hire people who want to help build the firm, not just work at it. If that is you, apply.
