Data Visualisation Engineer

We're making energy fair, clean, and simple for all using technology.
Octopus Energy started with a bold idea: to build Britain’s first truly digital energy supplier. By combining world-class tech with brilliant humans who care deeply about customers and driving the renewable energy transition, we made it happen and in 2025, we became Britain’s largest energy supplier.
Octopus Energy Group is a global energy transition collective. 10 businesses working across 4 continents to tackle energy transformation at nearly every front.
And we constantly push to make energy better. Tirelessly campaigning for fair protections for customers. And building innovative technologies that forge a path to a green energy system.
We’re made up of 10,000+ authentic, committed people working around the world on stuff you'd never expect. We're united by a shared goal: to drive the global green energy revolution. Read our Spotlight series to meet some of the team.
About the role

At Octopus Tech, you’ll have real ownership, variety, and the chance to shape products that make a tangible difference in people’s lives – lowering bills, enabling greener living, and delivering experiences customers genuinely love. You’ll work side by side with teams across marketing, operations, and data, and see the impact of your work in the real world, fast. We are looking for a Data Visualisation Engineer to join our team.
This is a rare chance to join a small, trusted team with a big remit. You'll work directly alongside senior leadership, own projects end to end, and produce work that directly shapes public understanding and support for the energy transition.
Day to day you'll be working closely with teams like marketing, policy, and press, turning complex energy data into clear stories. Projects are varied and the pipeline moves fast, so you should be someone who gets energised by a new challenge landing on your plate without warning.
On the technical side, we predominantly work in React and Next.js, Mapbox, and WebGL, alongside Blender for 3D and animation work. Beyond that, we use whatever tools the job calls for, and you'll regularly find yourself picking up something new.
We're looking for someone who can do more than produce charts and maps. You should be confident in extracting narratives from raw data, understand how to pick the right visualisation techniques for the given story and audience, happy working independently, and someone willing to make decisions and take the initiative.
Geospatial experience is desirable, and some familiarity with Python is a bonus given how closely we work with the data science team. We care more about how you think and communicate than whether you already know the energy sector.
Things we’ve worked on
Here are just a few examples of the work we’ve solely produced or worked alongside other teams on over the past four and half years:

• How we built a realtime public dashboard for Cosy heat pumps in two weeks

• Balance Forecast, helping customers understand their predicted future energy costs

• Animated map showing the charging patterns of EVs managed by Intelligent Octopus

• Octo House, a WebGL experience showing some of the low-carbon tech for homes

• Octoplus SNAP!, a browser-based mobile game used to give away three new EVs
