Senior Enterprise Architect – Integration
International Motors is seeking a Senior Enterprise Architect – Integration to provide enterprise-level architecture leadership for how applications, platforms, and services connect, communicate, and exchange data across the organization. As part of Enterprise Architecture, this role will help shape the integration strategy and architecture across a diverse technology landscape spanning corporate functions, operational technology, ERP, financial services, R&D, manufacturing, and service solutions.
The role is responsible for establishing and guiding enterprise integration architecture, standards, patterns, and governance, ensuring that integration approaches are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with broader enterprise architecture principles and technology strategy. The technology landscape includes a combination of modern and legacy applications, on-premises systems, SaaS platforms, commercial off-the-shelf solutions, vendor-hosted platforms, APIs, and other integration technologies.
A key focus of the position is providing architecture oversight and strategic guidance throughout solution design and delivery. The Senior Enterprise Architect will conduct solution design and architecture reviews, evaluate proposed integration approaches, identify architectural risks and dependencies, and help ensure alignment with enterprise integration standards and strategic direction. The role will also serve as a trusted advisor and consultant to federated application and solution teams, helping them evaluate integration options and trade-offs and establish the most appropriate integration approach based on business, functional, technical, security, data, and operational requirements.
Responsibilities
Enterprise Integration Strategy & Architecture
- Define the enterprise integration vision, roadmap, reference architectures, and approved patterns across a mix of legacy, on-prem, SaaS, and cloud platforms
- Evaluate how new technologies and solutions will integrate with the existing landscape, assessing security, performance, scalability, maintainability, and supportability
- Determine the right integration approach (API, messaging, event-driven, file/ETL, middleware) based on system constraints, vendor limitations, and long-term fit
- Define disposition strategies for legacy middleware and integrations (retain, retire, replace, modernize) and balance near-term delivery with reducing technical debt
Architecture Review & Integration Governance
- Lead architecture reviews focused on integrations and system-to-system communication. Review proposed designs against business and technical requirements, identify gaps, and guide teams to fix them
• Build and lead a formal integration governance process, potentially including an Integration Governance Committee of application owners, data providers, and SMEs
• Replace ad hoc point-to-point builds and direct database access with enterprise-approved, reusable patterns that protect source systems and prevent duplicate integrations
• Establish standards for versioning, lifecycle management, security, documentation, and monitoring so the organization has full visibility into how data moves across the enterprise
Standards, Enablement & Best Practices
- Author and maintain integration standards, playbooks, SOPs, and tool-selection guidance by architecture style, use case, and platform
- Promote adoption through learning sessions, design consultations, and reusable components and shared services
- Ensure integrations meet enterprise security requirements, including OAuth, OpenID Connect, and certificate-based authentication, along with data protection and regulatory requirements
Cross-Functional Leadership & Influence
- Partner with technology leaders, product owners, application, infrastructure, and data teams, and business stakeholders across domains
- Act as a consultative advisor, influencing architectural decisions without direct authority
- Communicate complex technical trade-offs clearly to both technical teams and senior leadership, and constructively challenge decisions when needed
- Mentor architects and engineers on integration patterns and enterprise design thinking
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and at least 11 years of Information Technology or IT Architecture experience
- At least 2 years of lead experience
OR
- Master's degree and at least 9 years of Information Technology or IT Architecture experience
- At least 2 years of lead experience
OR
- At least 14 years of Information Technology or IT Architecture experience
- At least 2 years of lead experience
Additional Requirements
- Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
Desired Skills
- Broad, enterprise-level integration architecture experience in a large, established, or regulated organization, preferably in-house across multiple business domains
- Deep understanding of enterprise integration patterns, middleware, SOA, API-led connectivity, event-driven architecture, and hybrid/cloud integration (Azure, AWS, GCP), including the reasoning behind when and why to use each
- Proven experience leading architecture review boards, integration governance, or enterprise standards programs
- Track record of integrating legacy or on-prem systems with modern SaaS and cloud platforms, including working within vendor and API limitations
- Technical foundation, often built earlier in a development or engineering career, strong enough to evaluate designs, spot flaws, and assess risk across many technologies without being the hands-on implementer
- Familiarity with integration and API management platforms such as TIBCO, MuleSoft, Azure Integration Services, Kafka, Oracle SOA Suite, or Microsoft APIM. Breadth of architectural judgment matters more than depth in any single tool.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills with senior technical and business leaders
- Experience in a matrixed, international environment
- Manufacturing or automotive industry experience is a strong plus
