About the role:

Modular is building a next-generation AI infrastructure platform that unifies the many application frameworks and hardware backends, simplifying deployment for AI production teams and accelerating innovation for AI researchers and hardware developers.

We are looking for a Senior Technical Community Manager to grow the developer community around Mojo and MAX. This is an operator's role. You will own a portfolio of programs that all run at once: a Community Champions program, in-person meetups, recurring virtual community meetings, hackathons, community-driven social media, and occasional hackathons.

LOCATION: Candidates based in the US or Canada are welcome to apply. To support growth and collaboration, those in earlier career stages work in a hybrid capacity at our Los Altos, CA. More senior staff can work out of our office in Los Altos, CA or remotely from home. Onboarding for new hires is conducted in-person in our Los Altos, CA office.

Additionally, this role requires travel to industry events and community meetups, primarily in the Bay Area. During conference/event season, this could be as often as twice per month.

What you will do:

You'll lead our community programs end-to-end, including designing and operating our Champions program (from nomination through rewards and local event support), running recurring in-person meetups across the Bay Area with full logistics ownership, and moderating our virtual community calls. You'll also own our community voice on X and LinkedIn, curating and promoting projects and demos our community builds, and you'll plan and execute hackathons and conferences. This role spans in-person and virtual touchpoints including venue sourcing and speaker recruitment, social media strategy, documentation and playbooks, and community moderation across Discord and our forum.

Success looks like a community that runs without you in the room: champions hosting meetups in cities you have never visited, users answering each other's questions faster than we can. We get there by building scalable systems together, and investing deeply in our community.

What you bring to the table:

6+ years of software community management, developer relations, technical field marketing, or technical program management experience.
A track record of running several programs or event series at the same time, with examples of the systems you built to keep them on track. Comfort with project management tools, shared calendars, and budget tracking.
Experience building champion or advocacy programs, including recruiting, onboarding, and keeping contributors you do not manage.
Comfort operating without a marketing team behind you. You should be used to writing your own copy, managing your own vendors, and owning programs end to end.
Daily use of AI tools in your own work.
Hands-on event operations experience: venues, vendors, shipping, staffing, run-of-show, and the last-minute problems that come with all of it.
Comfort working with and managing communities for highly technical people. You don’t need to be well-versed in compilers, inference, or systems programming, but you must be comfortable communicating with people who are.
Experience as an active participant at conferences and other events, including giving talks, running workshops, and facilitating community development sessions.
Experience promoting new technologies through blog posts, newsletters, webinars, and other media.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts in simple language and to write documentation other people can follow.
A passion for staying up to date with industry trends and happenings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or technical related field.
2+ years of Product Management or related work experience.

*Completed advanced degrees in a relevant field may be substituted for up to two years of work experience.

The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in the US is $150,200.00 - $225,400.00 USD.

The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in Canada is $111,500.00 - $167,300.00 CAD.

The salary for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of permissible, non-discriminatory job-related factors, which include but are not limited to education, training, work experience, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future. The total compensation for a candidate will also include annual target bonus, equity, and benefits, with equity making up a significant portion of your total compensation.
