Principal Technical Product Manager
Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
As a Micron Core Data Center Business Unit (CDBU) Technical Product Manager (TPM) within the data center SSD Product Management team, you will help define and drive the technical development of next-generation Micron data center SSDs. Working within a product line led by a senior TPM, you will own the requirements for an assigned product, feature area, or customer program, collaborating with customers and internal stakeholders (from engineering to operations to media architecture and beyond). You will gather documented and implicit customer requirements, evaluate gaps against Micron capabilities, and translate them into clear specifications for SSDs in the OEM server, OEM storage, public cloud providers, public GPU providers, Fed/Gov, and Fortune 500 cloud SSD market segments. The successful candidate brings either advanced depth in one SSD domain or thorough working knowledge across several (NVMe interface, NAND, ASIC, DRAM, firmware, hardware, validation, standards, etc.), and will work as an independent contributor who becomes the go-to technical contact for their area, trusted by both Micron engineering and the customer technical teams they support.
This role is a strong next step for an engineer or product professional who wants to move closer to the customer and to product definition. It calls for solid analytical skills, sound judgment on trade-offs, the curiosity to ask the questions that uncover what customers actually need, and the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to engineers and non-specialists alike. A passion for storage and for how SSDs are shaping and fueling the future is a must.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Serve as the voice of the customer on product development teams for an assigned product, feature set, or customer program, executing against the product plan set by the product line lead
- Own and maintain customer-driven requirements documents for your area, and contribute to launch materials, technical marketing collateral, and datasheets
- Compare your product requirements to customer requirements: perform spec gap and competitive analysis and recommend how to close the gaps
- Work daily with engineering to evaluate issues, define solutions, and inform development decisions and trade-offs within your area
- Track current and emerging SSD features and trends in the data center storage market, and assess which features make sense for Micron based on business viability, technology feasibility, and end-customer workloads and use cases
- Build working technical relationships with customer engineering teams; use targeted questioning to understand their requirements, workloads, and pain points, and feed what you learn into product and pathfinding discussions
- Prepare and present the content for your area in concept reviews, design reviews, and technical stage gate reviews
- Support Quarterly Technical Reviews and other engagements with OEMs, hyperscalers, and industry partners, presenting the material for your area
- Ensure data center SSD needs for your area are represented in the Micron Product Life-Cycle Management (PLM) planning process
- Keep technical product details and data for your products accurate in the databases and requirements management tools that Micron uses
- Plan and run small projects or workstreams end to end (for example, a feature definition, a competitive analysis, or a customer technical issue)
- Work with technical customer teams to help resolve customers' technical issues
- Share knowledge with less experienced team members, and broaden your own cross-domain expertise through new assignments
- Apply AI tools to scale requirements and program work: use LLM-based and agentic AI tools to accelerate requirements analysis, documentation, and cross-program comparison (e.g., automated requirements comparison and validation), turning manual, program-by-program effort into reusable, scalable processes.
Qualifications and skills include, but are not limited to:
- Ability to collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority
- Advanced knowledge of one storage-related domain, or thorough working knowledge of several: NVMe interface, NAND, ASIC, DRAM, networking, firmware, software, validation, servers, GPUs, QoS, etc.
- Experience writing or contributing to requirements, specifications, or test plans that translate customer or system needs into clearly defined features
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable working through ambiguity within a direction set by others
- Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to exchange complex technical information with colleagues, managers, and customer engineers
- Curiosity about how today's product needs shape tomorrow's requirements, and interest in growing toward broader product strategy ownership
- Working business acumen: understanding of how cost, schedule, and market timing affect product decisions
- Experience with cross-functional teams and working across multiple locations and organizational boundaries
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally
- A BS or BA degree in engineering or a technical field is required, along with 3+ years combined of engineering, product development, applications, or customer-facing experience in storage and/or semiconductors. An MS or PhD in a relevant field may offset some of the experience requirement. Solid state drive and/or hard disk drive experience required.
Preferred qualifications:
- Customer-facing technical experience with OEM, hyperscale, or enterprise storage customers
- Familiarity with data center SSD industry specifications such as NVMe, PCIe, and the OCP Datacenter NVMe SSD specification
- Exposure to SSD product development stage gates, qualification, or product life-cycle management processes
