(Junior) Legal Counsel (f/m/d)
(Junior) Legal Counsel | 80-100%| St. Gallen, Switzerland or Berlin, Germany (Hybrid)
With over 100 million searches, weather is among the top five topics people search for on Google β and for good reason. Weather shapes decisions across nearly every industry, from energy and aviation to agriculture, logistics, and insurance. At Meteomatics, we turn the world's most accurate weather and climate data into intelligence that helps our clients run their businesses better β and, in many cases, protect lives and property. We work with almost every industry, all over the world.
As we continue to expand our global presence, we're looking for a hands-on (Junior) Legal Counsel to help build our in-house legal function. This is a high-ownership role on a small, close-knit team: you'll work directly with our Sales and cross-functional teams to move deals forward, manage risk.
If you want visible impact and the freedom to shape how legal works β rather than being one cog in a large department β this is for you.
Your responsibilities
Own commercial contracting end-to-end β draft, review, and negotiate software licensing, SaaS, data-sharing and data-licensing, service, and confidentiality agreements, with a focus on keeping deals moving without compromising on risk.
Be the go-to legal partner for the Sales team β sit close to the deal, translate legal risk into clear commercial guidance, and help close contracts that align with our business objectives.
Build for scale β develop templates, playbooks, and self-serve tools that let the business handle standard matters quickly, so legal time is spent on the deals that genuinely need it.
Advise on the laws and regulations shaping B2B SaaS and the weather-data industry, including intellectual property, data protection (e.g. the Swiss FADP and GDPR).
Protect the company's IP and data assets and help embed sound data-protection practice across the organization.
Manage and coordinate external counsel across jurisdictions β keeping quality high and spend sensible.
Raise legal awareness across the company through practical training and clear, usable guidance.
Your qualifications
Master's degree or higher from an accredited law school;
2β4 years of experience as Legal Counsel, Legal Analyst, or in a comparable role β ideally in a B2B technology or SaaS company, or at a reputable law firm.
Strong command of B2B SaaS contracts, intellectual property, and data privacy, with the confidence to handle legal matters in an international context.
A commercial, pragmatic mindset β you find the path to "yes" while clearly flagging what truly matters.
Comfort working autonomously and setting your own priorities in a fast-paced, lean environment; you enjoy owning things rather than waiting for direction.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and drafting skills in English. German, French, Spanish β or any additional language β is a real plus given our Swiss base and international client base.
What we offer
Purpose and impact: flat hierarchies and a genuine opportunity to shape Meteomatics' success β and to build a legal function that's truly yours.
International environment: we come from all over the globe and bring very different backgrounds.
Hybrid work: we love meeting our colleagues at the office, and we also value focused time from home when we feel more introspective.
Fun: our People team loves organizing social activities β terrace barbecues, a ski day in the Swiss mountains, summer off-site events, after-work games, and more.
