Short Summary:
The Engineer will develop Python 3.10 backend services, Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) APIs, integrate application workflows into CryoFlow, and deliver new product features.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the refactor of existing backend capabilities into Python 3.10 services aligned with CryoFlow architecture and deployment practices.
- Create and maintain BFF services using FastAPI and Uvicorn, exposing clear API routes for product workflows, integration screens, and front-end consumers.
- Help define service boundaries in a microservice architecture, simplifying or consolidating backend services when it improves maintainability.
- Integrate workflows into CryoFlow, including vitrification experiments, worklists, grid details, user/session consistency, and navigation between application contexts.
- Help the team design, implement, and deliver new product features after the initial integration work, with ownership from analysis to tested delivery.
- Implement backend logic for status updates, validation, data persistence, device/session edge cases, report-generation helpers, and user-facing error handling.
- Collaborate with front-end developers on Angular integration; Angular v17 or similar modern Angular experience is a strong plus for debugging and small feature delivery.
- Write and maintain tests for Python services and integration flows, including API tests, BFF route tests, mocked external calls, and regression tests for known issues.
- Investigate and fix product behavior issues by reading logs, reproducing scenarios, checking data consistency, and validating fixes end to end.
- Work with DevOps and CI/CD owners on deployment-related needs such as Docker images, pipeline behavior, SBOM/release build expectations, and environment validation.
- Use Kubernetes knowledge to inspect pods, readiness/liveness behavior, service health, configuration, and deployment problems in DEV or integration environments.
- Document API behavior, BFF responsibilities, and known edge cases for sustainable product operation and evolution.
Requirement:
- Solid Python development experience, ideally with Python 3.10 in backend services or API-oriented applications.
- Hands-on experience with FastAPI and Uvicorn, including route design, validation, dependency injection patterns, async behavior, and operational logging.
- Experience creating or maintaining BFF layers that adapt backend/domain services for front-end workflows.
- Good understanding of REST APIs, data validation, error handling, service-to-service calls, and backend integration testing.
- Familiarity with microservice architecture and the trade-offs around splitting, combining, or simplifying services.
- Ability to debug product issues across backend code, API responses, logs, databases, front-end symptoms, and deployment state.
- Strong autonomy and ownership, with enough communication discipline to keep product, QA, and other developers aligned.
- A practical testing mindset: unit tests, API tests, integration tests, mocks/fixtures, and regression checks for realistic product scenarios.
