We are looking for an experienced Java Engineer to join our Payments engineering area. You will design and build secure, reliable and scalable backend services supporting the full customer payment journey end to end across the Baltics.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys complex backend systems, event-driven architecture and solving problems where security, correctness, resilience and operational stability matter. You will stay close to the code while actively contributing to architecture and technical design decisions.
How You Will Make an Impact:
Design, develop and maintain Java and Spring Boot backend services.
Build secure REST APIs and event-driven integrations.
Contribute to architecture and technical design decisions.
Translate complex business needs into clear and maintainable technical solutions.
Own solutions throughout their lifecycle, from design and implementation to production support.
Apply Luminor engineering, architecture, development and security best practices.
Write clean, testable and maintainable code.
Improve automated testing, observability and production readiness.
Review code and technical designs and share knowledge with other engineers.
Use AI-assisted engineering tools and agents across software design, development, testing, code review, documentation and troubleshooting.
Work closely with product owners, architects, engineers, business stakeholders and platform teams.
Support the modernization of payment capabilities into scalable and cloud-ready services.

What Makes You a Great Fit:
Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
Experience designing distributed, event-driven or high-volume transactional systems.
Strong understanding of software architecture, microservices, APIs and integration patterns.
Ability to evaluate options, explain trade-offs and make pragmatic design decisions.
Experience with Kafka or comparable messaging technologies.
Practical cloud experience, preferably AWS.
Experience with relational databases and transaction consistency.
Understanding of secure development, automated testing, CI/CD and observability.
Strong practical experience with AI coding assistants and engineering agents, including the ability to apply them effectively while validating generated results and following security requirements.
Strong ownership mindset and accountability for delivered solutions.
Ability to work effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
Clear communication and knowledge-sharing skills.
Fluent English is required in spoken and written communication due to working on Pan-Baltic level.
