Position Summary

Lake Erie Nature & Science Center is offering an

internship opportunity in wildlife rehabilitation, animal

care, and public education.

Interns will work alongside wildlife specialists to:

  • Care for native wildlife admitted to the wildlife

rehabilitation program, including assisting with

feeding, cleaning, medicating, and supportive

care for a variety of species

  • Clean, feed and provide daily care for resident

animals; assist with animal handling, health

monitoring, enrichment, exhibit management,

and general husbandry

  • Assist with public education and wildlife programs

for a variety of audiences and ages

  • Provide support with departmental administrative

and organization duties as needed

Schedule

Internships run from late September through early

January. Interns work 4 days each week (Sunday-

Saturday) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and at least one

10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. shift. Please include your

Compensation

Interns may receive a stipend and may qualify for course

credit.

Our Mission: Lake Erie Nature & Science Center educates and inspires each of us to

understand, appreciate and take responsibility for our natural universe.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree or have

completed at least 2 years of coursework in pre-vet,

environmental science, biology, zoology, or a related

field; or be seriously pursuing a career in a related field.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Prior animal-care experience or experience working with

wildlife is strongly preferred.

Other qualifications include:

  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • A high level of self-motivation
  • The capability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced

environment

  • Effective communication skills
  • A passion for wildlife education and conservation
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software
  • Physical ability to perform manual work such as

loading/pushing wheelbarrows, lifting up to 50

pounds, etc.

  • Valid driver’s license
