Middle Product Designer Accessibility UbiSim - Contract
If you are passionate about driving meaningful change through education and healthcare innovation, we invite you to explore this opportunity to make a tangible impact with a mission-driven organization.
30 hours per week from start through the end of December, beginning as soon as possible.
Remote, must be based within CET ±1.
Responsibilities
• Produce remediation designs in Figma for each audit finding, covering semantic structure, keyboard operability, focus order and visibility, contrast, form labelling and error handling, status messaging, and non-text alternatives.
• Design and document every relevant state: default, hover, focus, active, disabled, loading, error, and empty. States are the deliverable, not an afterthought.
• Write implementation-ready specifications an engineer can build from unaided, including focus behaviour, accessible names, reading order, and expected assistive technology announcements.
• Resolve remediation at the component level rather than screen by screen, and propose design system changes where a fix should apply across surfaces.
• Flag where a fix requires a change to interaction design rather than a surface-level correction, and raise the tradeoff rather than resolving it silently.
• Release remediation in reviewed batches so engineering can start before the full set is complete, sequenced with Product and Engineering by severity, effort, and dependency.
• Keep a traceable record from audit finding to design decision to specification, and support design QA on implemented work.
Competencies & Skills
• 3 to 5 years of product design experience, with demonstrable accessibility work on complex web products.
• Highly detail-oriented and systematic. You work through a long findings list without losing precision on item forty, and your specifications are consistent, complete, and unambiguous.
• Strong interaction design skills applied to dense, multi-step, configuration-heavy interfaces.
• Familiar with assistive technology behaviour and able to design with it in mind.
• Comfortable working within an established design system and extending it.
• Self-sufficient. You drive the work forward against a fixed end date and escalate blockers rather than absorbing them.
• Proficient in Figma. This is a design role; no front-end implementation is required.
Great to Have
• Working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA at the success criterion level, and familiarity with ARIA patterns.
• Experience contributing accessibility patterns or documentation to a design system, or with VPAT or ACR documentation.
• EdTech or healthcare background, or familiarity with authoring and content management tools.
