Job Type: Full-Time l Location: San Francisco CA l Department: AI Infrastructure Supply Chain l Reporting to: Senior Manager, PLM | Work Location Type: #Hybrid
IREN is a leading AI Cloud Service Provider, delivering large-scale GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s vertically integrated platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and data centers in renewable-rich regions across the U.S. and Canada.
The
Senior Supplier Quality Engineer, Liquid Cooling and Power owns supplier quality for the liquid cooling and power delivery hardware in IREN’s AI data centers, including coolant distribution units (CDUs), manifolds, valve trains, quick disconnects, cold plates, hoses, pumps, leak detection, and coolant, along with power shelves, busbars, PDUs, and battery backup. Reporting to the Technical Lead Director, Manufacturing and Quality, this senior individual-contributor role qualifies suppliers, sets quality standards for mass production deployment, and serves as the senior escalation point for supplier-related liquid and power failures. The role partners closely with Engineering, Technical Sourcing, Supply Chain Operations, Data Center Operations, and liquid cooling and power suppliers to deliver hardware that meets IREN’s cost, quality, and reliability targets at scale.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way - responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
- Own supplier quality strategy for IREN’s liquid cooling and power delivery hardware, from supplier qualification and NPI through volume production and sustaining.
- Qualify new suppliers and contract manufacturers for CDUs, manifolds, valve trains, quick disconnects, cold plates, hoses, and power hardware through audits, process capability reviews, and First Article Inspection.
- Define supplier quality standards, test and inspection methods, and acceptance criteria for liquid and power components, and drive continuous improvement with suppliers to meet quality targets.
- Lead root cause analysis of leaks, flow and thermal performance issues, material or coolant degradation, and power hardware failures during integration, commissioning, and data center operation, owning the Major Issue List.
- Drive supplier corrective and preventive actions (SCAR, 8D, FACA/CAPA) and SPC-based process control at suppliers to reduce defect rates and achieve quality and reliability goals.
- Work with cross-functional teams to own liquid cooling and power hardware supply and ensure on-time delivery, cost, quality, and reliability targets are met.
- Advance supplier and incoming test coverage, including pressure and leak testing, flow and thermal verification, and electrical safety testing, to maximize liquid and power system reliability.
- Conduct Source Inspections and supplier process audits, and maintain supplier quality documentation, BOMs, and engineering changes in PLM tools.
- Establish supplier quality KPIs (incoming DPPM, FAI pass rate, leak rate, field failure rate, SCAR closure) and supplier business review cadences, and report performance to leadership.
Other important requirements
- Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies.
- Must be able to reliably commute to the assigned office location on scheduled in-office days under the hybrid work arrangement.
- This role requires willingness to travel domestically and internationally to supplier, manufacturing partner, integration, and data center sites.
- IREN does not yet have an office in the Bay Area (a Santa Clara office is planned); until it opens, this role will work remotely, transitioning to hybrid on-site work once the office is established.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience preferred in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or product quality for liquid cooling, thermal, power, or data center infrastructure hardware, ideally at a hyperscaler, cloud provider, or AI infrastructure company.
- Knowledge of liquid cooling and power delivery technologies (CDUs, manifolds, valve trains, quick disconnects, cold plates, hoses, pumps, leak detection, coolant chemistry, power shelves, busbars, PDUs, and battery backup).
- Proven experience qualifying and managing suppliers and contract manufacturers for fluid-handling, thermal, or power components, including supplier audits, PPAP or equivalent, and First Article Inspection.
- Working expertise with supplier test and inspection methods for liquid and power hardware, including pressure and leak testing, flow and thermal performance verification, material compatibility, and electrical safety testing.
- Hands-on experience driving supplier manufacturing operations, including reliability and quality requirements, incoming inspection, and acceptance criteria for liquid cooling and power hardware.
- Strong knowledge of quality methodologies (FACA/CAPA, 8D, SCAR, FMEA, SPC/Cpk, reliability testing), PLM-based BOM and change management, and data center spares planning.
- Experience with liquid-cooled rack-scale systems such as NVIDIA GB200/GB300 and VR200 programs and relevant standards (OCP, UL, IEC) preferred.
- Strong problem solving, data analysis, and communication skills, with the ability to operate autonomously and drive root cause and corrective actions across cross-functional and supplier teams.
