IREN is a leading AI Cloud Service Provider, delivering large-scale GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s vertically integrated platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and data centers in renewable-rich regions across the U.S. and Canada.
The
Senior Product Quality Engineer, CPU Server and Storage owns manufacturing and product quality for the CPU compute servers and storage systems in IREN’s AI infrastructure, including x86 and ARM servers and NVMe storage systems. Reporting to the Technical Lead Director, Manufacturing and Quality, this senior individual-contributor role sets quality standards for mass production deployment and serves as the senior escalation point for server and storage hardware failures. The role partners closely with Engineering, Technical Sourcing, Supply Chain Operations, Data Center Operations, and OEM/ODM/JDM manufacturing partners to deliver hardware that meets IREN’s cost, quality, and yield targets at scale.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way - responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
- Own product and manufacturing quality strategy for IREN’s CPU compute servers and storage systems, from NPI through volume production and sustaining.
- Oversee NPI pilot builds, factory assembly, and high-volume production ramps for compute and storage racks at OEM/ODM/JDM partners, covering server assembly, rack integration, liquid cooling, and system bring-up.
- Define test methods, quality standards, and rack-level acceptance criteria for compute and storage racks, and drive continuous improvement with OEM/ODM/JDM partners and component suppliers.
- Lead root cause analysis of server, CPU, memory, storage, and board-level failures during rack integration, bring-up, and data center operation using diagnostics, log analysis, and lab equipment, owning the Major Issue List.
- Drive corrective and preventive actions (FACA/CAPA), SPC, AFR, and Cpk-based process control to reduce defect rates and achieve quality and yield goals. Partner with XFNs on RMA failures failure category managements.
- Work with cross-functional teams to own compute and storage rack manufacturing and ensure on-time delivery, cost, quality, and yield targets are met.
- Advance system-level validation and rack-level test coverage, including stress, thermal and liquid-cooling verification, and signal integrity testing, to maximize server and storage reliability and scalability.
- Conduct First Article and Source Inspections on compute and storage assemblies, and maintain production process and quality documentation, BOMs, and engineering changes in PLM tools.
- Establish quality KPIs (First Pass Yield, DPPM, DOA, early-life failure rates) and governance cadences with partners and suppliers, and report performance to leadership.
Other important requirements
- Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies.
- Must be able to reliably commute to the assigned office location on scheduled in-office days under the hybrid work arrangement.
- This role requires willingness to travel domestically and internationally to manufacturing partner, supplier, integration, and data center sites.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in manufacturing, test, and product quality for compute, storage, or data center hardware, ideally at a hyperscaler, cloud provider, or AI infrastructure company.
- Knowledge of server and storage hardware technologies (x86/ARM platforms, PCIe, memory, NVMe and RAID storage, power, and thermal) and server firmware and management stacks (BIOS, BMC, Redfish/IPMI) used for diagnostics, configuration control, and fleet health monitoring.
- Proven experience with OEM/ODM/JDM manufacturing partners and component suppliers delivering high-quality CPU servers and storage systems.
- Working expertise with system-level validation and manufacturing test for server and storage hardware, including stress and burn-in, thermal and liquid-cooling verification, signal integrity, and diagnostics.
- Hands-on experience driving NPI and manufacturing operations, including pilot builds, production ramps, reliability and quality requirements, First Article Inspection, and acceptance criteria for compute and storage racks.
- Strong knowledge of quality methodologies (FACA/CAPA, 8D, FMEA, SPC/Cpk, Six Sigma, reliability testing), PLM-based BOM and change management, and data center spares definition.
- Experience with liquid-cooled server systems and test automation or quality data analysis tools (Python, SQL, Power BI) preferred.
- Strong problem solving, data analysis, and communication skills, with the ability to operate autonomously and drive root cause and corrective actions across cross-functional and supplier teams.
