About INSO  Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organization (INSO) is an international NGO that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations, and training. INSO provides daily support to more than 1,500 NGOs operating in 24 of the world’s most insecure countries. INSO is registered in the Netherlands, with its headquarters located in The Hague, a city renowned for its international focus on peace and justice.  INSO Great LakesThe Great Lakes falls under INSO’s East Africa Region. Since September 2022, INSO has been working to support the regional humanitarian community working on the response to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) crisis and its influence on the Great Lakes region. Interventions have been made in support of members of NGO forums in Uganda and DR Congo. INSO would like to share a greater analysis of regional dynamics and their impact with our partners.Job SummaryBased in Goma, the main objective of the Great Lakes Regional Analyst is to complement and enhance the strategic decision-making of NGOs conducting humanitarian operations in the DRC and wider region. This will be accomplished by examining the interplay between regional dynamics, including socioeconomic and geopolitical trends, to provide insight into how they shape regional humanitarian safety and access. This position falls under the supervision of the Country Director while working in close collaboration with the Global Analysis Team. Please note that this position is pending funding.Major Responsibilities Service DeliveryRegularly engage regional level audiences to address and understand relevant access and safety concerns from a regional perspective.Prepare and produce reports, presentations, and thematic briefing notes that assist NGO partners in making risk management and access decisions.Manage and deliver ad-hoc products on emerging regional challenges to humanitarian safety and access.Contribute to other country office products and inform decision-making at the regional level.Offer a responsive, tailored analysis service directly to INSO’s NGO partners upon their request. Convene and contribute to regional NGO coordination meetings and fora with humanitarian counterparts to discuss regional safety and access.Contribute to INSO’s global analysis services through joint products and briefs.Support INSO’s wider advocacy efforts around access and safety when tasked.  Program Development Monitor international and regional developments through a diverse range of sources, such as NGOs, the UN, civil society organisations, research institutes and media outlets.Inform analysis and assessment of national and subnational developments.Cultivate an active network of contacts within the broader humanitarian community as well as other relevant stakeholders for information sharing, analytical exchanges and coordination.Coordinate with INSO’s Global Analysis Team to enable analytical capacity building in the country office.Effectively represent and protect INSO’s principles of independence, impartiality and neutrality as well as actively promoting INSO within the humanitarian community.  RequirementsEssential3+ years of working experience in an analytical capacity, preferably working in conflict or post-conflict contextsExemplary command of French and professional proficiency in EnglishProven ability to provide operationally relevant analysis to a wide-ranging audienceExperience working in NGOs, international organisations, consultancy, or journalismExcellent networking, diplomatic, and representative communication skillsAcceptance and strong understanding of humanitarian principlesDemonstrable understanding of humanitarian safety practices and their applicationGraduate-level education in political science, history, or humanitarian studies, or a related field, or equivalent work experienceNice-to-HaveExperience providing effective, partner-focused advisory support.Experience developing practical products through close partner engagement.Established regional experience and relevant information networks.Experience working in insecure and conflict-affected environments.Professional experience in the DRC and/or neighbouring countries.Experience developing staff capacity through training and coaching.Strong understanding of INSO’s mandate, services and operating model.Core CompetenciesAnalytical – applies conceptual, critical and creative thinking to solve problems effectively.Communicative – builds clear, respectful and effective professional relationships.Organised – works systematically, accurately and reliably, with strong attention to detail.Collaborative – contributes positively to a team and can be relied upon to deliver.Adaptive – demonstrates cultural and situational awareness while working effectively in changing environments.Proactive – works independently, takes initiative and identifies solutions without constant supervision. INSO’s Safeguarding PolicyINSO is fully committed to safe recruitment, selection and vetting of all potential new staff, trustees and volunteers.
