Senior Android Engineer
*instinctools is a software development company that provides custom software solutions for businesses of all sizes. Our team works closely with clients to understand their specific needs and provide personalized solutions that meet their business requirements.
*instinctools is looking for a Senior Android Engineer for one of our clients.
Location: Poland, Europe, Kazakhstan
Client: A global mobility and urban services platform that offers ride-hailing, intercity travel, delivery, and task assistance, operating in over 700 cities across 47 countries, and is one of the most downloaded mobility apps in the world.
Project: You’ll join a product delivery team responsible for developing and maintaining user-facing geo capabilities and real-time location tracking services. You’ll be working alongside backend, mobile, QA, and analytics colleagues.
Your work will include in-app geo features such as pickup/drop-off location selection, in-app navigation, route line visualization, Location Manager, and location snapping and accuracy optimizations, plus the integration layer supporting these experiences.
The broader technical context includes a microservices architecture with event-driven integrations and maps integration.
Project Duration: 4 months+
Responsibilities and tasks:
- Design, develop, and maintain Android features end-to-end, from implementation through release.
- Build Geo-specific features: pickup/drop-off, ride/vehicle availability, route availability, and live vehicle tracking, integrating maps, geofencing, and location services.
- Develop UI in Jetpack Compose using established design systems, applying Clean Architecture, MVVM, and MVI/Redux principles.
- Integrate APIs, map SDKs, and third-party route/vehicle data.
- Identify and fix bugs and performance bottlenecks (memory, UI, battery, network); investigate production issues with root cause analysis to prevent regressions.
- Ensure code quality through testing, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines; implement feature flags and A/B experiments for safe rollouts.
- Monitor app health via Crashlytics/Analytics and set up dashboards to track risks.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (Geo Data, Backend, QA) and participate in Agile ceremonies (planning, refinement, demos).
Our expectations of the ideal candidate:
- 5+ years commercial Android development in Kotlin, with deep knowledge of Jetpack Compose, Coroutines/Flow, RxJava, and modern Android APIs (Retrofit/OkHttp, WorkManager, FCM, DataStore).
- Strong grasp of Clean Architecture, MVVM/MVI, offline storage, and concurrency.
- Hands-on experience with location-based features: maps, geofencing, real-time tracking, and routing/Geo SDK integration.
- Experience with performance optimization (memory, battery, UI, network) and RESTful API integration.
- Solid testing practices (unit/UI tests), CI/CD (GitHub Actions/GitLab CI), and code quality tooling (ktlint, Detekt).
- Familiarity with secure coding practices, Git workflows, and the full Google Play delivery lifecycle.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted dev tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude) to speed up coding and review.
Nice to have:
- Experience with two or more long-term projects (roughly 6–12 months) involving location tracking specifically
- Experience integrating custom or proprietary mapping solutions, beyond standard SDKs
