2027 Summer Intern, Business Analyst (Reston, VA; Remote)

ICF is seeking a Business Analyst Intern for our Centralized Operations, Analytics and Technology (COAT) group to support ICF’s Sightline platform. You will work alongside product managers, business analysts, technical architects, developers, and other stakeholders to learn how business needs are translated into clear requirements and organized work for technical teams.

This is an entry-level, 10-week, full-time internship expected to begin in June and end in August. Work can be hybrid from Reston, VA or remote from anywhere in the US (preferably Chicago, IL area). At this time, we are unable to provide housing or relocation assistance for this position. Pay is expected to be $23/hour. 

This internship is a good fit for someone who is curious, detail-oriented, comfortable asking questions, and interested in how software, data, and business operations come together. You will receive guidance from experienced team members while contributing to real project work, documentation, testing, and team coordination.

As a 2027 Summer Intern, Business Analyst, you will:  

• Assist with gathering, clarifying, and documenting business, data, and system requirements under the guidance of experienced team members.

• Help create and update user stories, tasks, acceptance criteria, and supporting notes in Jira.

• Participate in stakeholder and technical team meetings; capture decisions, questions, action items, and follow-up needs.

• Support the development and maintenance of clear product and process documentation in Confluence, Word, Excel, or similar tools.

• Help review system inputs, outputs, and data workflows to confirm that requirements are understandable and complete.

• Provide support to Technical and QA teams to provide guidance and clarifications regarding requirement questions.  

• Track assigned tasks and communicate progress, risks, or questions to the appropriate team member.

• Learn and participate in Agile and Scrum practices, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

Basic Qualifications

• By start date, a minimum of 30 completed college-level credit hours is required preferably in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, or other related field.

• Candidate must be a US citizen, reside in the U.S., be authorized to work in the U.S., and all work must be performed in the U.S. per contract requirements.

Preferred Skills and Experience: 

• Exposure to business analysis, requirements gathering, process mapping, data analysis, software testing, or project management through coursework or projects.

• Excellent presentation and communication skills. 

• Technical curiosity.

• Ability to work well with a wide range of individuals and problem solve technical issues.

• Capability of clearly communicating complex system issues to technical and non-technical personnel and users.  

• Strong oral and written communication skills. 

• Experience working with Agile methodology of software development.

• An understanding of general programming and machine learning concepts.  

• Familiarity with architectural concepts such as cloud computing.

• An understanding of full software development life cycles and process improvement methodologies.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$37,855.00 - $64,354.00 Reston, VA (VA30)
