About the role
The Country Manager (CM), Portugal, is pivotal in driving business growth, leading and managing Haleon Portugal achieving business targets in terms of sales, profit, working capital and expanding market share within the Portuguese market - a key growth engine in Southern Europe. This role requires strong strategic planning, leadership, and coaching of the team, overseeing overall strategy and execution. The CM is also the official representative for Portugal on the SE Cluster Leadership Team, contributing to collective SE Cluster results and ensuring alignment with global and Europe Operating Unit category/brand strategies.
The Portuguese business market has consistently performed well, meeting or exceeding financial targets, with notable increases in engagement levels and market share. A dynamic commercial leader is needed to sustain this momentum and explore new growth opportunities and to lead the country organization team, creating a diverse, inclusive and open work environment to growth in line with Haleon culture and values.
Key responsibilities
Driving Growth and Delivering Business Outcome:

Take comprehensive responsibility for the overall performance metrics, including sales, Gross margin, profit, working capital, and market share, with a particular focus on leveraging deep understanding of the Portuguese market to identify and capitalize on growth opportunities.

Deliver E2E business outcomes for the market to actively deliver or overdeliver financial commitments, prioritizing initiatives, and respond to changes in business environment

Build and maintain trusted relationships with key customers and partners in Portugal, ensuring Haleon and its brands are positioned for success in the local context.

Align local market needs with Haleon’s Win as One strategy, identifying and prioritising growth opportunities.

Drive E2E supply chain, financial planning and delivery, always influencing to improve performance.

Formulate and implement robust local E2E market strategies that are aligned with the overarching EU operating unit and SE Cluster strategic direction to meet consumer needs while responding to evolving customer and competitor dynamics.

Lead execution of category, brand, and channel strategies, including RTM, eCommerce, and Integrated Business Planning. Build trusted relationships with customers and drive customer service excellence.

Implement comprehensive commercial strategies and processes, including the development of detailed plans and accurate sales/financial forecasts; ensure effective market positioning and management of products, maximize profitability and drive new product opportunities.

Apply commercial and financial discipline to deliver revenue growth and sustainable margins. Improve operational and investment efficiencies, evolving the business model to support the growth agenda and enhance competitive advantage. Optimize cost structures and improve cash flow.

Proactively assess and manage risks, including legal and supply network impacts.

Ensure business meets ethical, legal, regulatory, and statutory requirements with a robust risk management and business continuity framework.

Based on knowledge of local consumer needs, customer & channel dynamics and competitor activity, align the market team behind the Win as One strategy and market plan.
Working Across Boundaries:

Leverage and energize the matrix organization, working across functional and geographical boundaries to influence and collaborate with key stakeholders.

Act as the "face of Haleon" externally, managing Corporate/Government Affairs, PR, and Media relations.
Compliance and Governance:
-
Ensure compliance with the Haleon Framework by identifying, managing, and escalating risks as necessary. This involves conducting regular risk assessments, implementing control measures, and ensuring all employees are aware of and adhere to company policies and procedures.

Serve as Statutory and Legal Representative for the country, ensuring adherence to Haleon's policies and local laws. This includes overseeing legal matters, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing relationships with external legal advisors.
Qualifications and Skills Essential

Successful track record as a General Manager, Country Manager or Commercial Director, leading sizable commercial organizations with experience in strategic planning, financial management, and operational execution.

Demonstrated strong commercial background: Significant senior experience in Commercial roles (Sales, Commercial Excellence) with a minimum 10 years of experience.

Multichannel experience, including sales/channel strategy, account management, and customer relationship management, , including the knowledge of international customer dynamics, independent pharmacies and discounts.

Proven track record of driving business growth, negotiating with key customers, and delivering results in highly competitive environments.

In-depth knowledge of the Portuguese commercial environment is strongly preferred: Familiarity with local market dynamics, RTM, regulatory, consumer behavior, and established relationships within the Portuguese business community will be considered a distinct advantage.

P&L responsibility and experience in strategic planning, financial management, and operational execution

Ideally from consumer healthcare, beauty care, nutrition, or other FMCG sectors

Proven ability to bring new direction, accelerate growth, and increase market share through market expansion, product launches, and strategic partnerships.

Confident and decisive leader who sets clear expectations, provides guidance and support, holds the team accountable, and possesses clear communication and negotiation skills.

Ability to articulate complex ideas, influence stakeholders, and ensure successful strategy implementation through strategic thinking, project management, and performance monitoring.

Experience in upgrading organizations through innovative commercial approaches, efficient processes, and systems, including improving RTM, process reengineering, technology adoption, and change management.

Portuguese and English Proficiency level.
