Internship 2027 - Design Interns
We like to think of ourselves as more than just developers. We're a friendly group of around 300 people with plenty of casual and hardcore gamers, tech heads and creative masterminds, organized planners, and nerdy game fans who make this industry so fun. And we’re all together on a mission to open windows to amazing worlds. We've been making games for over 30 years, crafting and publishing unique experiences that have put us on the path to becoming a leader in Online Worlds.
We've got four studios spread across Norway, the USA, Portugal, and Romania, and we're always on the lookout for more dedicated people to join our ranks.
We're all about creating a relaxed and equal workspace where flat communication and our agile structure are key to delivering world-class games.
So, if you're ready to make your mark, we're ready to welcome you!

Application deadline: September 23, 2026
Time and place
Time: January–May 2027

As a Systems Design Intern

Playtest systems, document findings, and help the team improve quality through iteration.
As a Narrative Design Intern
Support the development and implementation of storylines, dialogue, and other narrative content.
Work with writers, narrative designers, content designers, and other disciplines to develop ideas into playable experiences.
Help structure branching dialogue and maintain clear, up-to-date documentation.
Review narrative content in game, incorporate feedback, and contribute to polish and quality.
What we're looking for
You do not need professional game-industry experience or a shipped title. We're interested in what you've learned through your studies, personal projects, game jams, modding, writing, or other creative work, and in your curiosity and willingness to grow.
For the Game Design internship, it's helpful if you have
Hands-on experience making games through personal, academic, or game-jam projects.
Familiarity with a game engine; experience with Unreal Engine is a plus.
An interest in analyzing, testing, and improving how games feel to play.
Experience collaborating in a team, whether at school, at work, or in a personal project.
For the Systems Design internship, it's helpful if you have
An interest in systems design, progression, pacing, balance, or game economies.
Experience exploring these topics through coursework, personal projects, game jams, modding, or detailed design exercises.
A basic understanding of game engines and the game-development process.
Some familiarity with gameplay scripting or visual scripting; a willingness to learn matters most.
An interest in survival games and how their systems interact is a plus.
For the Narrative Design internship, it's helpful if you have
An interest in interactive storytelling and in how narrative works together with gameplay.
Writing, narrative, or content-design work from coursework, personal projects, game jams, or modding.
Familiarity with a game engine, preferably Unreal Engine
Basic knowledge of game design.
An organized approach to documentation and an openness to direction and constructive feedback.
Strong command of the English language
For all three internships
You are currently enrolled in a relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Norway and expect to graduate in 2027.
You communicate clearly in English and enjoy collaborating within and across disciplines.
You are curious, proactive, receptive to feedback, and comfortable asking questions as you learn.
Application Guidelines
Please include a cover letter that answers the following questions:
Which of the three internship positions are you applying for?
Why are you interested in this internship, and what excites you about joining Funcom?
What do you hope to learn, and how might the experience support your future career?
What skills, strengths, and attitudes would you bring to the team?
Please include a link to a portfolio or relevant work samples. Narrative Design applicants may include writing samples, dialogue, narrative-game work, or other relevant material.
Attach a copy of your latest academic grade transcript with your application.
You are also welcome to include references, or a letter of recommendation from your teacher or school with your application.
We review applications on an ongoing basis and recommend applying as soon as possible.
