Internship 2027 - Concept Art Intern
We like to think of ourselves as more than just developers. We're a friendly group of around 300 people with plenty of casual and hardcore gamers, tech heads and creative masterminds, organized planners, and nerdy game fans who make this industry so fun. And we’re all together on a mission to open windows to amazing worlds. We've been making games for over 30 years, crafting and publishing unique experiences that have put us on the path to becoming a leader in Online Worlds.
We've got four studios spread across Norway, the USA, Portugal, and Romania, and we're always on the lookout for more dedicated people to join our ranks.
We're all about creating a relaxed and equal workspace where flat communication and our agile structure are key to delivering world-class games.
So, if you're ready to make your mark, we're ready to welcome you!
About the internship program
Applications are now open for our 2027 internship program at our Oslo studio. We are welcoming students currently enrolled in a relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program (illustration, graphic design, fine art, games and entertainment technology, or a related art or design field) at an educational institution in Norway, who want to complete an unpaid internship as part of their studies.
Because arrangements for internships vary between institutions and programs, we encourage you to confirm the requirements with your institution before applying.
The program offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn from experienced colleagues and mentors, and contribute towards a real game.
Application deadline: September 23, 2026
Time and place
Time of the internship: January-May 2027
Place: Oslo, Norway, On-site. You will need to arrange and cover your own travel and accommodation. You'll also have access to our free breakfast bar and lunch.
Our goal is to help set you up for a strong career in game development. After completing the internship, you'll be very welcome to apply for open positions at Funcom.
Your Mission at Funcom
We are looking for a Concept Art Intern to join our art team. With guidance from industry artists, you will learn how & what goes into making concept artwork that contributes to the making of a game.
How you can have an impact in your position
Create thumbnails, sketches, and final images to answer creative briefs.
Explore and learn which workflows apply best to which tasks, from 2d sketches to 3d block outs.
Translate briefs into exciting and engaging visuals.
Collaborate with artists and other disciplines, developing the work through feedback and iteration.
What we're looking for
You do not need professional game-industry experience. We're interested in the foundations you've built through your studies and personal work, the thinking behind your work, and your willingness to learn.
A foundation in 2D art, including perspective, composition, lighting, color, and materials.
An interest in architecture, environments, props, characters, and functional design.
Experience using Photoshop or a similar digital painting tool.
Some familiarity with Blender or another 3D tool; advanced modeling or sculpting is not required.
An interest in games, specifically more realistic game styles and visual storytelling.
Curiosity, openness to feedback, and enthusiasm for developing your craft with a team.
