ESD Design Engineer Role Summary The ACC CTO EMC/ESD team drives robustness excellence across NXP's portfolio, enabling First-Pass-Right products through advanced EMC and ESD methodologies, design solutions, validation capabilities, and technology innovation. As an ESD Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and deploying state-of-the-art ESD protection solutions that ensure product reliability while optimizing silicon area, performance, and cost. You will work closely with technology, design, validation, and system teams to support new product introductions and contribute to future ESD strategies, methodologies, and breakthrough concepts Responsibilities Define ESD protection concepts and architectures for new integrated circuits across multiple technologies and product families. Design, optimize, and validate on-chip ESD protection networks, I/O structures, and top-level protection schemes. Perform ESD simulations, analysis, and robustness assessments to ensure compliance with product requirements including IEC61000-4-2, ISO10605, SAE (Air discharge) tests for transceivers. Develop and maintain ESD design methodologies, guidelines, libraries, and best practices. Support international product teams throughout the development cycle, from architecture definition to product qualification. Collaborate with technology development, circuit designers, package engineers, validation teams, and system experts. Participate in ESD characterization, failure analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective action definition, with lessons learned Drive First-Pass-Right robustness while balancing reliability, area, performance, and cost trade-offs. Contribute to advanced ESD modeling, automation, and innovative protection concepts for future technologies. Support customer-facing technical investigations related to ESD robustness. Share knowledge through technical coaching, training, documentation, and lessons learned. Contribute to research programs, patents, university collaborations, and technology roadmaps. Profile Education Master's degree or Ph.
D. in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Semiconductor Physics, or a related discipline. Experience & Technical Skills Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics and integrated circuit design. 1 to 3 years’ experience in ESD protection design for analog, mixed-signal, high-voltage, power management, automotive ICs, transceivers (CAN) Good knowledge of ESD qualification standards and mechanisms such as HBM, CDM, TLP, VF-TLP, and latch-up, IEC61000-4-2, ISO10605 Experience with circuit simulation and EDA design tools. Familiarity with ESD characterization, silicon debug, and failure analysis techniques. Personal Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Proactive mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement. Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and international teams. Strong communication skills and ability to influence technical decisions. Willingness to learn, share expertise, and drive technical excellence across the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
