Senior Data Engineer - Snowflake
This is a remote role that may only be hired in the following location(s): North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Arizona.
This position is responsible for managing Snowflake data platform with multiple accounts. The role requires a deep knowledge of snowflake platform design, security, data warehouses, objects & access management, and features required for development of sophisticated data pipelines in an agile environment and collaboration with technical partners, stakeholders to drive data-driven decision-making.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Data Architecture and Strategy - Design and implement scalable, efficient data architectures. Lead the development of data strategy aligned with business objectives. Evaluate and integrate new technologies to enhance data capabilities
- Data Governance, Security & Quality Management - Establish and enforce data governance policies, best practices and implement data quality checks, standardization. Enforce Snowflake RBAC/ABAC, network policies/rules, masking/row access policies, tags, data classification, and least-privilege role hierarchies.
- Data warehousing & modeling - Build performant Snowflake objects (databases, tables, streams, tasks, materialized views, warehouses) and optimize clustering/micro-partitioning
- Performance Optimization and Troubleshooting - Analyze and optimize system performance for large-scale data operations. Troubleshoot complex data issues and implement robust solutions
- Testing – Validate snowflake data objects, roles, RBAC policies, configurations, integrations, access.
- Code Deployment & Release Management - Adopt release management processes to promote code deployment to various environments including production, disaster recovery, and support activities.
- Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing - Mentor junior data engineers and provide technical guidance. Contribute to the development of best practices and standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive data literacy
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and 4 years' experience OR High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent and 8 years' experience in data engineering, data technologies, cloud platforms
Preferred Qualifications:
- Designing, building, operating secure, cost-efficient data warehouses using medallion architecture on Snowflake.
- Snowflake data security and governance strategies – Okta/SailPoint integration, RBAC, masking, data classification, tokenization, lineage.
- Building, deploying metadata-driven, secured, governed snowflake objects, streamlit applications and dashboards, data pipelines integrated with AWS, DBT, observability tools through CICD automation.
- Building, configuring, testing integrations between Snowflake and on-premise/cloud RDBMS and non-RDBMS data sources, Python frameworks, DBT, and reporting tools like PowerBI, Tableau etc.
- Orchestrating, scheduling data pipelines using Astronomer Airflow.
- FinOps for Snowflake, cost charge-back/show-back, warehouse auto-tuning.
- Implementing logging, monitoring, alerting with Snowflake using ACCOUNT_USAGE/INFORMATION_SCHEMA, event tables, and integrating with Splunk, Dynatrace.
- Adopting release management guidelines, code deployment to various environments, implementing disaster recovery strategies, leading production activities.
- Experience with Cortex AI, Iceberg/external tables; Kafka or event-driven ingestion patterns.
- Great Expectations, Monte Carlo/Anomalo/Atlan/Collibra/BigID integrations experience is a plus.
- Financial banking, domain, consumption model experience is a plus.
- Relevant cloud or data platform certifications
