Data Scientist II

Expedia Group is looking for a Data Scientist II to help improve the post-booking experience for travelers. You will use data analysis, experimentation, and statistical methods to answer product and service questions, understand performance, and help teams make evidence-based decisions. Working with experienced data scientists and cross-functional partners, you will take analytical work from a clearly framed question through findings and recommendations.

In this role you will:

  • Analyze traveler servicing and service-platform data to identify trends, explain performance changes, and uncover opportunities to improve experiences and operations.
  • Build and maintain analyses, dashboards, and recurring metrics that help partners understand service health and outcomes.
  • Support the design and evaluation of experiments, including metric selection, data validation, interpretation, and clear communication of results.
  • Apply statistical techniques and exploratory analysis to investigate product questions and assess the likely impact of proposed changes.
  • Use SQL and a programming language such as Python or R to work with data, automate repeatable analyses, and document your methods.
  • Partner with product, engineering, operations, and analytics teammates to clarify questions, share findings, and help translate insights into next steps.
  • Present analytical results in a clear, concise way, explaining assumptions, limitations, and implications for non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to reliable analytical practices, including data quality checks, reproducible work, and consistent metric definitions.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience applying analytics, data science, statistics, or a related discipline to business or product questions.
  • Working proficiency in SQL and Python, R, or a similar analytical programming language.
  • Foundational knowledge of statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, and experimental design.
  • Experience exploring datasets, validating results, and communicating findings with charts, dashboards, or written narratives.
  • Ability to break down a defined problem, manage analytical tasks, and seek feedback when assumptions or requirements are unclear.
  • Curiosity, attention to detail, and collaborative communication skills.
  • You have a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. degree in a quantitative, scientific, or related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.

Helpful experience

  • Three or more years of experience working with e-commerce and/or clickstream data.
  • Exposure to product analytics, digital experimentation, customer support, travel, self-service, or post-booking customer journeys.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools, cloud data platforms, and version-controlled analytical workflows.
  • Exposure to predictive modeling or machine-learning methods and interest in applying them to customer or operational problems.

Why this role
You’ll help teams improve servicing by turning data into useful insights and stronger decisions. The work supports the team’s focus on rigorous experimentation, understanding end-to-end service-platform health, and applying machine learning to optimize processes and drive business outcomes.
