Your team

You will be part of a small team forming the Secretariat of the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB), an EU body that brings together independent experts and representatives from some 80 national authorities, EU institutions and EU authorities. The ESRB is responsible for the macroprudential oversight of the EU financial system and thus helps to prevent and mitigate systemic risk. It collects and analyses information on a broad range of financial institutions and markets, monitors macro-financial developments and issues warnings and recommendations to policymakers and supervisors.

The ESRB Secretariat is part of the European Central Bank (ECB) and provides analytical, statistical, logistical and administrative support to the ESRB. Our tasks include identifying and analysing systemic risks to the EU financial system, proposing macroprudential policies and assessing the macroprudential policies of EU Member States, and preparing ESRB warnings and recommendations and monitoring their implementation. The Secretariat works with national central banks, supervisory authorities and EU institutions, supports ESRB committees and working groups, and prepares documents for meetings of the ESRB’s General Board and substructures.

Your role

As a Research Analyst in the ESRB Secretariat, you will support our financial stability analysis and macroprudential policy work by:

contributing to our Secretariat’s analytical work, particularly in the area of macroprudential policy stance (including banking, insurance and financial markets);
supporting and contributing to the analysis of a range of granular datasets to help identify risks to financial stability in the EU;
contributing to the preparation of reports, papers and presentations, and producing tables and charts;
working closely with colleagues in the ESRB Secretariat and the broader ESRB community, and establishing and maintaining working relationships with colleagues in the ECB’s other business areas and ESRB member institutions.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:

a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration, economics, finance, accounting or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
in addition to the above, at least two years’ experience (other than as a trainee or intern) in analysing developments from a financial stability and/or macroprudential policy perspective, including practical experience in processing and analysing complex datasets;
an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:

familiarity with a broad range of standard databases that provide macroeconomic and financial data (e.g. Datastream, Bloomberg, Bankscope, Haver Analytics and Dealogic) or official financial sector statistics (e.g. ECB, Eurostat and the Bank for International Settlements);
knowledge of the non-banking sector.

Further information

We are offering a short-term ESCB/IO contract. The appointment being for 24 months as of the exact starting date of the selected person, extendable to up to 36 months. Candidates must have a contract of employment with their home institution for a period of at least one year beyond the duration of the ECB contract being offered.
