Senior Product Owner - Social Connection & Loyalty
Our Team
We believe travel can create citizens of the world. We spark moments of connection and transformation, giving people the freedom to explore openly and shape their own story.
With colleagues from more than 50 countries, our diversity sparks curiosity, insight, and a culture of openness, essential to understanding our travellers and one another.
We work in a flexible hybrid model from our Utrecht HQ and our homes across the Netherlands.
Just as travel is about discovery, we’re looking for people who want to go one stop further, joining a journey that inspires personal transformation through train travel.
We’re on the search for…
At Interrail, we help people experience Europe by train. We are looking for a PO to make that experience more connected, rewarding, and transformative. You will lead the strategy and roadmap for products that bring travellers together, recognise their journeys, and give them more reasons to return to Interrail and make them feel a sense of belonging.
From social connection, community, to loyalty, referrals, and gamification, you will create experiences that turn a great trip into a lasting relationship with our brand. Some of these experiences will also support informal learning, intercultural exchange and personal development through travel.
You will work closely with Design, Engineering, Data, Lifecycle Marketing, Customer Experience, and Commercial teams to build products that customers genuinely value and that strengthen engagement, retention, advocacy, and lifetime value.
The role exists to solve one fundamental challenge: how do we create meaningful reasons for travellers to remain engaged with Interrail between journeys, and return not only to travel again, but to participate, contribute and advocate for the brand?
What you’ll be doing
-
Define and deliver the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for community, loyalty, referrals, and gamification.
-
Own the digital loyalty experience and economics.
-
Design products that enable meaningful interactions and real-world connections between travellers, while maintaining a safe, respectful and inclusive environment.
-
Develop product experiences that encourage cultural exchange, curiosity and informal learning through social interaction.
-
Work with Institutional Initiatives to translate relevant programme objectives into engaging traveller experiences, where these align with the broader Social Connection & Loyalty product strategy.
-
Build experiences that help travellers connect, share, contribute, and discover useful travel content.
-
Create loyalty, recognition, and referral journeys that encourage advocacy and repeat travel.
-
Work with Design, CX, and Engineering to deliver simple, scalable web and mobile experiences.
-
Partner with Lifecycle Marketing to connect campaigns with relevant in-product journeys.
-
Use customer insight, behavioural data, AI, and experimentation (A/B testing) to identify opportunities and personalise experiences.
-
Work with Customer Support and relevant partners to ensure community experiences are safe, trustworthy, and useful.
-
Define and track success metrics across Traveller Participation Rate, engagement, retention, repeat purchase, referrals, loyalty participation, and customer lifetime value.

-
Demonstrated experience building social, community-driven or interaction-led digital products, with a strong understanding of how to create meaningful interactions between users.
-
Experience owning a product area from strategy and discovery through delivery, scaling, and optimization.
-
Experience designing for trust, safety, inclusion and healthy community participation, particularly where digital experiences facilitate interaction between people who do not already know one another.
-
Strong qualitative user research and behavioral insight skills, with the ability to understand why people connect, participate and contribute, not only what they click or use.
-
Strong product judgment and the ability to turn customer insight into simple, valuable experiences.
-
Confidence using data, experimentation, and product metrics to make decisions and measure incremental impact.

Experience working closely with Design, Engineering, Data, Marketing, and other business stakeholders.
