Principal Product Manager, Fabric Ethernet & Metro Connect

Equinix Fabric is the world's leading Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) interconnection platform, operating across 65+ global metros and connecting enterprises, hyperscalers, and network service providers through carrier-class ethernet. The core ethernet layer - EPL, EVPL, and virtual connections - is the revenue engine at the heart of Fabric.
We are hiring a Principal Product Manager to own this core ethernet services portfolio, spanning Fabric EPL/EVPL virtual connections, port and LAG management, service tokens, and Equinix Metro Connect (Fabric Metro Connect). This leader will shape how customers consume physical and virtual Layer 2 connectivity through a simpler, more unified portfolio to improve customer experience and strengthen Fabric's position as the default interconnection platform for cloud, AI, and enterprise networking.
This is a senior individual contributor role with P&L accountability, direct customer engagement, and a direct line to the product leadership team. You will define the roadmap, make the business case for investment, influence cross-functional execution, and help shape the next generation of Equinix's flagship Ethernet services.
Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Roadmap

Define the 3-year vision and quarterly roadmap for Fabric EPL/EVPL virtual connections, port and LAG architectures, service tokens, and Equinix Fabric Metro Connect

Lead the strategic convergence of Fabric virtual connections and packet-based Metro Connect, simplifying customer choice while increasing attach, adoption, and portfolio value. Drive the ethernet services product toward higher speeds (400G+), broader metro availability, and richer service types (E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree, multipoint)

Shape the MACsec, QoS, and resiliency roadmap in partnership with engineering and network architecture
P&L & Business Case Ownership

Own the Fabric ethernet and Fabric Metro Connect P&L - revenue, attach rate, margin, and competitive pricing

7+ years of product mgmt experience, including meaningful ownership of a cloud infrastructure, networking, digital platform, or carrier connectvity products.Build and defend investment cases for major roadmap bets, including capacity expansion, new metro launches, and service type additions

Partner with Finance and Sales to model WTP (willingness to pay), segment economics, and pricing architecture

Track and report on product KPIs: port utilization, virtual connection growth, average bandwidth per connection, and customer retention
Technical Product Leadership

Author precise, engineering-ready PRDs for ethernet service capabilities - VLAN handling, L2CP behavior, redundancy plane design, LAG provisioning, bandwidth tiers

Be the internal authority on carrier ethernet standards (MEF E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree; 802.1Q, 802.1ad QinQ, MACsec, LACP)

Work closely with network architecture on PE node topology, port provisioning, and the physical-to-virtual service binding model

Engage deeply with the API-first vision - define the OpenAPI surface for ethernet services consumed by enterprise and cloud customers programmatically
Customer & Market Engagement

Conduct structured discovery with enterprise network architects, cloud on-ramp teams, and carrier customers

Own the competitive lens on carrier ethernet peers and adjacent NaaS providers

Partner with Sales Engineering and Solutions Architecture on strategic deals requiring custom ethernet service design

Represent the ethernet portfolio at customer advisory boards, industry forums (MEF, PTC), and external events
Qualifications
Required
-
7+ years of product mgmt experience, including meaningful ownership of a cloud infrastructure, networking, digital platform, or carrier connectvity products.

Deep working knowledge of carrier ethernet: EPL, EVPL, E-LAN, 802.1Q/QinQ, MEF standards, Layer 2 forwarding, VLAN architectures

Hands-on familiarity with enterprise and cloud WAN architecture - DCI, SD-WAN overlays, BGP, cloud on-ramp connectivity

Track record of owning a P&L or product line financials - pricing, margin analysis, investment modeling

Experience writing engineering-grade product specs that go directly into development sprints without translation overhead

Ability to operate at the intersection of deep technical detail and C-suite business narrative - comfortably shifting registers
Strongly Preferred

Experience at a NaaS provider, cloud provider, IXP, or carrier with direct data center or colocation interconnect products

Familiarity with Equinix Fabric, AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute, or Google Cloud Interconnect product mechanics

Exposure to MEF 3.0 certification frameworks and carrier Ethernet OAM (802.3ah, Y.1731)

Experience with API product design - REST/OpenAPI - for network provisioning platforms

Prior experience in a global product role spanning AMER, EMEA, and APAC markets

United States - CA Bay Area : 186,000 - 280,000 USD / Annual
United States - CA Non-Bay Area, AK, CT, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, VA, WA : 171,000 - 257,000 USD / Annual
United States - Other posted locations not specifically listed : 155,000 - 233,000 USD / Annual
United States - Dallas Infomart Office DAI : 155,000 - 233,000 USD / Annual
Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.
The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
