We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join Devoteam Portugal's Nearshore team, working directly with an international client based in the UK within the Tech-led Facilities Management & Infrastructure Solutions sector. In this role, you will focus on building, evolving, and maintaining scalable and high-performance backend applications.
Job Description
- Develop, evolve, and maintain scalable backend applications using Node.js and ExpressJS
- Design, implement, and maintain robust, secure, and well-documented RESTful APIs
- Ensure code quality through engineering best practices, data modeling, testing, and performance optimization
- Collaborate with frontend and cross-functional teams to integrate services and define application architecture
- Participate actively in agile processes, including sprint planning, estimations, code reviews, and technical discussions
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex backend technical issues in a timely manner
- Stay up to date with modern backend development patterns and technology trends
- Minimum 5 years of experience in backend development with a strong focus on Node.js
- Solid expertise in ExpressJS for building scalable backend services
- Strong proficiency in Relational Databases (SQL) and data modeling
- Proven experience in designing and integrating RESTful APIs
- Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker is highly valued
- Strong knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, and version control workflows (Git)
- Solid understanding of backend architecture patterns, security, and clean code standards
- Strong problem-solving skills, proactive mindset, and attention to detail
- Fluent in English (written and spoken) for daily international collaboration
