Position FULL-TIME INP Editor

The Inpatient Editor independently reviews and performs comprehensive technical analysis of inpatient EEG studies in accordance with ACNS Standardized Critical Care EEG Terminology, ABRET Neurodiagnostic Competencies, ILAE classification guidelines and client-specific protocols. This role provides detailed technical descriptions to support physician interpretation, clinical decision making, and timely patient care.

The Inpatient Editor reviews adult and pediatric EEG studies, including continuous EEG (cEEG), ICU EEG, Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), Long-Term Monitoring (LTM), rapid EEG, routine EEG, and ambulatory EEG, while maintaining exceptional technical accuracy, quality assurance and turnaround expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·       Independently review adult and pediatric inpatient EEG recordings, including routine, continuous ICU EEG, EMU LTM, rapid EEG and assigned ambulatory EEG studies.

·       Analyze EEG recordings, video, patient history, event logs, push-button events, diary entries, and automated seizure detection.

·       Identify characterize, annotate, and document:

o   Electrographic and electroclinical seizures

o   Epileptiform Discharges

o   Rhythmic and Period Patterns

o   Focal and generalized abnormalities

o   Clinically significant events and representative clips

·       Distinguish physiologic and non-physiologic artifacts using appropriate filters and montages.

·       Prepare concise, comprehensive daily summaries, and final technical descriptions for physician interpretation using standardized EEG terminology.

·       Enter technical documentation directly into EMRs and EEG reporting systems.

·       Escalate urgent or critical findings/values according to facility policy, including:

o   Status Epilepticus

o   Nonconvulsive seizures

o   New seizure onset

o   Significant EEG deterioration

o   Critical rhythmic patterns requiring physician notification

·       Meet client-specific turnaround times while maintaining technical quality and documentation accuracy.

·       Work proficiently across multiple EEG acquisition and review platforms, EMR systems, and remote review environments.

·       Collaborate with epileptologists, neurologists, neuro-hospitalists, EEG technologists, nursing staff, Data Coordinators, Operations, and client personnel.

·       Participate in quality assurance initiatives, peer review, physician feedback, continuing education, and process improvement activities.

·       Cross-cover inpatient, ICU, EMU, and ambulatory EEG workflows as operational needs require.

·       Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and confidentiality standards.

·       Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: 

 

·       High school diploma or equivalent required.

·       Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Neurodiagnostic Technology or related healthcare field preferred.

·       Current Registered EEG Technologist (R.EEGT.) required.

·       Active credentials maintained in good standing.

·       Experience reviewing adult and pediatric EEG studies.

·       Thorough understanding of neurophysiology, epilepsy, and EEG principles.

 

Required Skills and Abilities:

·       Advanced EEG waveform and pattern recognition.

·       Strong knowledge of:

o   ACNS Standardized Critical Care EEG Terminology

o   ILAE seizure and epilepsy classifications

o   ABRET neurodiagnostic competencies

·       Ability to recognize:

o   Electrographic seizures

o   Electroclinical seizures

o   Rhythmic and periodic patterns

o   Ictal-interictal continuum (IIC)

o   Status epilepticus

o   Benign EEG variants

o   Physiologic and nonphysiological artifacts

·       Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.

·       Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.

·       Ability to prioritize urgent studies appropriately.

·       Ability to work independently in a remote or hospital environment with minimal supervision.

·       Strong organizational and time management skills.

·       Proficiency with multiple EEG review software platforms and electronic medical records.

·       Excellent interpersonal and professional communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Certified Long-Term Monitoring Technologist (CLTM) credentials through ABRET preferred.  

·       Three to five years of EEG review or editing experience.

·       Experience with:

o   Continuous ICU EEG (cEEG)

o   Adult and pediatric epilepsy monitoring

o   Rapid EEG technologies

·       Experience with multiple EEG vendors, including Cadwell, Natus, Nihon Kohden, Persyst, and Ceribell.

·       Experience documenting within multiple EMR platforms.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:  

 

This position may be performed in a hospital, office, or remote work environment and requires prolonged computer use, detailed visual concentration, and sustained attention while reviewing extended EEG recordings. Frequent interaction with physicians, technologists, nursing staff, and client personnel is required. The ability to remain seated for extended periods and perform repetitive computer-based tasks is necessary.
