Platform Engineer
About Us:
ClearRoute is an engineering consultancy bridging Quality Engineering, Cloud Platforms and Developer Experience. We help enterprises reliably bring high-impact digital products to market faster, cheaper, and safer, working with technology leaders facing complex business challenges.
We take as much pride in our people, culture and work-life balance as we do in making better software. We’re not just making better software. We’re making the making of software better. Collaborative, entrepreneurial and dedicated to problem solving, we bring the step change our customer need to sustain innovation. Our values challenge us to do the best we can for ClearRoute, our customers and most importantly our team. This is an opportunity for you to build the organisation from the ground up, use your voice to drive change and help transform organisations and problem domains.
About the Role
We're hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to own the Azure foundation that powers a new generation of AI-enabled delivery capabilities for a major UK energy sector organisation. The organisation is modernising a heavily manual, paper-driven intake process into an intelligent, AI-assisted system — for both external customers and internal teams — and this role owns the platform that makes that possible.
You won't be building the AI/agentic applications yourself; that's owned by dedicated delivery teams. Instead, you'll design and run the shared Azure platform those teams build on — identity, networking, CI/CD, environments, and observability — so they can ship quickly, safely, and consistently. It's a high-trust, high-visibility role: multiple teams will depend on the platform you build every day.
What You'll Do
• Design and build shared Azure platform services used across multiple delivery teams.
• Own Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform and/or Bicep) to deliver clean, repeatable, well-governed environments.
• Build CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions and/or Azure DevOps) and define “golden paths” that let delivery teams
move fast without reinventing their own tooling.
• Establish identity, networking, and security baselines appropriate for a critical infrastructure organisation.
• Own observability — logs, metrics, and traces — and the operational tooling behind it.
• Act as the platform partner to multiple engineering teams, understanding their needs and making sound trade-offs on their behalf.
What We're Looking For
• 8+ years of experience in platform, DevOps, or cloud engineering, with deep, hands-on Azure expertise —particularly identity, networking, and governance.
• Strong command of Infrastructure-as-Code — Terraform and/or Bicep — used in real, production environments.
• Solid CI/CD ownership — GitHub Actions and/or Azure DevOps.
• Production experience with Kubernetes (AKS) and/or Azure container services.
• Experience with observability tooling — Azure Monitor, Application Insights, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent.
• Comfortable supporting multiple engineering teams in parallel and balancing competing priorities.
Nice to Have
• Experience building platforms that support AI/ML/LLM workloads on Azure.
• Prior experience with UK energy or utilities sector clients.
• Experience building internal developer platforms or “golden path” tooling.
• Background in consulting or client-embedded delivery.
